Hello all, hope everyone is doing great!
Well, where to start? I suppose I could tell you that I have a lot of experience with firearms, but you don't know me so that would have little meaning. I could say that I have carried firearms in harm's way, but so have many others, so that gives you little information about me personally.
I'll just tell you why I'm here, in this specific forum.
I have always loved well made firearms, and Smith & Wesson firearms have always had a place in my life since before I was even old enough (or responsible enough) to shoot. I recall my father allowing me to hold his beautiful old model 13, while teaching me about safety and marksmanship. That same 13 was in my hand as I learned to shoot a handgun well, and it is still in the family today, decades later, ready to help my little sister protect herself and home.
I had my ventures into other firearms, as we all do, and a few of those still have their place with me, but none have ever taken over that special place in my heart that dad's old model 13 holds to this day. I still feel that the K frame S&W is the perfect revolver, and I am still searching for that perfection that I used to know. A 3" round butt 65 is in my future, I just have to find it... for a reasonable price, of course
.
For now, I am somewhat content with the two I have. My 60-4 3" .38 is a pure pleasure to handle and shoot, this is one that will never leave me.
My newest, just picked it up tonight actually, is a 642-2. I haven't shot her yet, obviously, but she feels like an old long lost lover in hand... familiar, yet different enough to wonder how she'll do at the range. I do have to admit, the airweight... well... weight, was surprising. It's perfect for the pocket carry that I had in mind. The perfect summer BBQ gun
.
Of course, as much as I love revolvers, I did happen to feel up a nice M&P40 while there... it felt like cheating on my beloved, but I never knew cheating could feel so good
. I think I know what will be rising to the top of my "acquire" list now. Revolvers will always be my first and true love, but there's no denying the utility and usefullness of the semi-auto, especially in todays troubled times. I do keep my CZ-75 close at home, and the 1911 that I had relegated to fun target use could be pressed into service, but that M&P just felt so good... and 15+1 of .40 is a strong persuasion, from either side of the hardware.
After spending time messing around with so many other firearms, it's nice to start getting back to my roots, and keeping it here at home as far as manufacture as well. S&W has certainly had their rough spots, as any manufacturer of any product would after such a long time, but it feels like coming home after a long vacation, it's always good to be home
