Talking First hand gun, first S&W, hello from Massachusetts!

Hi Everyone,

Just purchased my first handgun yesterday. My intention was to go the not-so-local gun shop and purchase a brand new Ruger SR9C.

While strolling around I set my sights on a used gun in the lower left hand corner of the case. It was a S&W CS9S. My mind was buzzing as soon as I put it in my hand.

Lo and behold, despite its flaws (more in a minute), I took it off the showroom floor and in to my possesion. In the meantime, my brother took home the Ruger. We immediately decided to go to the range. After about 100 rounds each we were both VERY satisfied with our pruchases.

Now the flaws, only one really. The flaw with the CS9 is that the magazine release doesn't drop out the magazine as one would hope. In fact unless you press up on the magazine you won't get it to budge. Any CS9 owners have similar problems? I have contacted S&W for repair service but I hope that their turnaround time is brief.

If anyone knows of a repair that can be done at home, please feel free to divulge that info somewhere below here.

Thanks and I have enjoyed reading some of your posts over the last day.

Sincerely,

Matt T.

Welcome from MA

Put a dab of grease on the button and work it in and out for awhile, may do the trick. Maybe not.

Howdy from Texas.

The CS series of guns hold those magazines fairly tightly. MY CS-45 does that, too.

Cleaning might help, breaking in might help, a dab of oil might help. But I think you might just have to get used to it like I did.

Alas, my CS9 could not be repaired. The frame was gouged. They sent me an M&P 9mm range kit to replace it. I immediately put it up for sale (I already have a full size SIG) and purchased yet another SIG that feels just like the CS9 did. It is a .380, but it's great.
