First Firearm at 50
Believe it or not I am 50 years old, and on this very day about 4 hours ago I bought my first gun. No, I am not having a mid-life crisis (at least I don't think I am) I am now the proud owner of an M&P Shield 9mm. I am so excited to fire this weapon for the first time when I hit the range tomorrow. I've watched every video and stocked up on ammo/cleaning products/range equipment and have it locked away in a great gun vault. I look forward to learning more from all of you.
I would love to hear from other first time owners who are coming to the party a little late.

Welcome to the Forum from Iowa.
Congratulations on your purchase. I would urge you to get some training as soon as possible.
Let's see, if you're having a mid life crisis, that means your gonna live to be at least 100.
Plenty of time to buy more guns.
Here's a hint: Get some revolvers.

Welcome from Ohio. I had plenty of long guns but bought my 1st handgun at 55. I am now looking for a 2nd safe..so you are on a very slippery slope. And at my age I have more expendable income than I did at 20. Don't overlook the world of fine revolvers.

Before loading it with live ammo, I suggest getting some snap caps. So you can safely learn how to use your new firearm.
In this world a man must either be anvil or hammer.

Welcome from Colorado...Bought my first firearm at 62yrs old.Two years later I have 19 handguns and 3 rifles.Like P&R Fan said you gotta get a revolver or two at some time in the future.
Read the manual and reread it every chance you get.Get to know your firearm inside and out before you even attempt to shoot it.Watch some videos on YouTube to see what other people have to say about the same firearm.Don't be afraid to ask for help from people at your range.I found that shooting with an experienced friend really helped with any anxiety I had when I fired my first shots.
