Good day all my name is louis.im a ex south african police dogmaster.
Im from warm and sunny South Africa. I own a 357 model 19 and would like to find out when she was made and just get generaly more info on her. I have her a few years know and she serves all my needs, but i dont know much about her.Im considering to sell her but there is just something about owning her that makes me think im going to make the bigest mistake to do so.Thus where can i find out (with her serial nr details) where she comes from and when she was made

Welcome Louis! You came to the right place. I know little about wheel guns but the folks here in the revolver forums are highly regarded and eager to share their knowledge. Glad to meet you.

Welcome form Michigan near Detroit. (But not too near)
You can post the serial number which will tell us when it was made. You don't have to post the whole number, example.... K4532XX
You can x out the last couple digits if you want. Also if it is model marked it will be marked as such inside the crane area and be a model 19 or 19-another number.
The model 19 is one of the iconic side arms of American LE during the 1960-1980s. Medium frame, most common in 4 inch.

Welcome, friend, from southern WV in the USA! The 19 is an iconic S&W revolver, hang on to it a minute and give us more info. I've HAD 5 or 6 of them and a 66 too, but they escaped for something I can't even recall. There IS something wrong with me.

Welcome from Texas Louis. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
Always grand to have a new member of the S&W family join in from across the Eastern pond.
Big fan of the wines from your country.

Thank you all.I must agree before i even started to think of going on a form i read some of your comments and realized here i found some good friends that i can talk Smith and Wesson too. my kind of language lol...well moosedog her serial nr is 55k20xx ,there are another number stamped on her as well 67256 and then in a bigger lettering C11. She is a model .19-4 . on the side its stamped MADE IN USA MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH AND WESSON SPRINGFIELD .MASS.I think (not sure)what they call a Smith and Wesson Combat Magnum Model 19.with a target hammer and trigger.hope this helps.I have shot a few guns but boy she is so smooth.not scared to take a heavy load though a do shoot light loads at the range not to misuse her and her best shot was a bull shot on about a hundred meters( with a heavy load -not sure how many yards that is). still in original blue never been re-gun blued with a flouting hammer pin if i recall correctly they call it.I did hear that they say these guns were police used as well.
