New Member from SE Texas
Hey everyone I'm a brand new gun owner and as my presence here will tell you, I went with a S&W. Specifically a 9mm M&P Shield. Decided to make this move as I am moving into being a correctional officer and it was suggested by supervisors and others that we conceal carry and as I recently turned 21 I figured I'd take this advise. Btw for short you can all just call me Vac.

Welcome from Wisconsin, Vac! It's a real good idea that you carry, especially since you're a Corrections Officer. You might not remember all of your "customers" but you can bet they'll remember you.

Howdy from another Texan, Cross Timbers region.
Now that you've got you're first S&W, you need a revolver. An S&W auto loader is kinda like a Harley baseball cap. Same brand, but not the legendary machine.

I do actually plan to pick up a S&W Model 65 .357 Revolver. These are the pistols that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice uses and what we have to qualify on every year (using 38 special ammo). On top of that we qualify on a Colt AR-15 (using 5.56 mm ammot) and a Remington 780P Shotgun (using 00 buckshot). I do plan on eventually picking up the revolver in the near future so that I can practice and qualify the first try every year. The academy lets us go to the range and practice with the rifles (as long as we bring our own ammo) so I'll probably hold off on getting an AR-15 any time soon. (expensive :P )

Welcome to the forum vac. I am also a new member. The AR 15s are getting more affordable and great fun. Good luck in your new career.
