New Member from Milwaukee WI
I'm Karl, a 41-year-old "gun nut" from suburban Milwaukee. I've been shooting for several years now. My gun collection numbers 13 now. Only 3 of them are S&Ws though: a Model 10 I inherited, a 617 4", and a recently purchased 986 that literally fell apart on its first range visit. (I get the impression S&W may have gotten rid of their quality control department & is now using us as quality control, having us send back things that fall apart and such.)

Welcome from the far north side of Milwaukee, Karl! I own two M&Ps, a used full size 40 & a new 40C & had absolutely no problems with them. Before that I had a cheaper Sigma40VE which I bought new when the CC law was passed. That was a nice pistol & shot everything I fed it.
I think you'll find that all gun manufacturers can have lemons that they release for sale. It seems that they all use the customer as QC. From all I've heard S&W seems to have fewer of them. You only hear about the bad ones. Their customer service is good so I for one can recommend them without batting an eye.

Welcome aboard fellow Sconnie!
Lucky dog to inherit a 4 inch 617. 6 round or 10? I finally found a 4 inch no dash at a gun show but I have not had the chance to shoot it yet. Wish it had been a 10 round version but I am pretty old school so a 6 shot revolver is normal to me I suppose.
