Rusted Engraving !!
I just pulled one of my prized revolvers out of the safe and immediately started "tearing up" as i noticed that a lot of the engraving had started to rust and was very dull looking !!
I'm dumbfounded, how could i have not noticed this before or done something differently.
My question now is what to do ??
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Can the gun be "refreshed" by an expert ?
Will it have to be reblued ?
Any help would be appreciated !!

It would be helpful if you'd provide detailed storage information and conditions along with some pictures of your revolver.
For Example: How close is Frisco to the ocean?

I live in the Dallas area of Texas( not near the coast- middle of the state).
I will try to take some pics and post them also.
It had been stored(as many others) in one of those yellow/green plastic storage bags made for gun storage, sold at gun shows to help with rust prevention !!
My guns are kept in large personal safes with some humidity control, but not much obviously.
I feel that i neglected to keep it adequately "lubed" for storage and am now going to have to pay the price !
There're all coming out for a wipe down now !!
What would be a good way to prevent this from happening again ? What type of treatment ??

Howdy from Ohio...good to have you in the house! You may want to pose your issue and pictures in the revolver section of the forum: better traffic thus more insight and answers. Good luck!

Welcome from Wisconsin, Doc! I'm sorry that happened & it appears that those rust prevention bags aren't worth a darn. Thanks for giving us the heads up.

Another cheese head welcome from the North.
For starters remove grips and wrap in an oiled rag.
This will help keep it from getting worse.
Don't go off half cocked with any actions before researching it more.
I assume it is a blue gun.
If you go to advanced settings for your post you will see how to download photos.
That would help us to think on how bad it really is.
I know sometimes things looks worse at first after a shock like this.
In 1971 my motor mounts broke on my moms 67 Caprice at first glance I thought the motor fell out. Actually it rocked back. Bad but could have been worse.
I hope we can assist.

Welcome from a fellow Texan "DOC" Lott . Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
Sorry to learn of this situation. You might post in the revolver or gun smithing section for better traffic and answers, if you have not done so already.
