Howdy from Ohio...good to have you in the house! You'll want to ask your question over in the revolver section of the forum: better traffic thus more insight/answers. Also, call S&W. I think they'll tell you how to write them or something so that you can get an exact date. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!
You have a fairly early 686 there. I don't have a book to know for sure, but I would guess your 676 shipped sometime in 1981. I have an early 4" 686 as well. Would love to see pictures of yours. You may want to start a thread in the 1980-present forum to get your ship date.
