Good afternoon. I am a new member to the forum and so far like what I see. I have been collecting firearms of all types since about 12 years old and I am now 69. My interests are side by side shotguns, Winchester Model 70's, Colt Single Action Armies and 1911's and a couple of Smith & Wessons.
Recently I purchased a 2nd Model Hand Ejector in .44 Special with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. I believe the gun has a mismatched cylinder and frame as the frame serial number is 18347 and the cylinder serial number is 19815. The gun also has replaced grips that are of the later Magna style. I am not able to furnish photos at present because I am a Colorado resident living in California and had the revolver sent to my gun dealer in Colorado. It will be a few months before I see it again and can photograph the gun.
I am wondering if perhaps someone can tell me when the gun was shipped. The gun looks to be in excellent condition and I don't think it has been reblued. As the serial numbers for the gun and the cylinder are 1468 numbers apart could there have been a mixup at the factory? Of course this is doubtful at best. At any rate the cylinder finish and revolver finish seem to match pretty well. I love the .44 Special cartridge and bought the gun as a shooter so I am somewhat OK if it is not a super rare collector model.

Thanks all. I appreciate the warm welcome such as I have found on the A. H. Fox forum, Parker Brothers forum and L. C. Smith forums. During my travels and years I have always found gun owners the nicest people on the planet as well as some of the most honest as well. So far the S&W forum lives right up to my expectations. Thanks again.

Welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania! You might consider leaving your request on S&W Hand Ejectors: 1896 to 1961. Another option is documenting your new puppy - you can Request a Factory Letter which will research the date of manufacture, first recorded shipment destination, etc.
