Greetings from New Guy
Hello! I am Jim (gordondewolf). I found this Forum while searching for information on the type of holsters we used in RVN for our .38 S&W revolvers. These were locally produced by the local RVN civilians. The pistol I had was peculiar in that it was a Model 10 M&P, but with a 5 inch barrel. I think those holsters were made of water buffalo hide.
I was a Flight Engineer on a CH-47C helicopter with C/159 ASHB of the 101st Airborne Division 1970-1971. Our gear was very limited, and everything except our Nomex was hand-me-downs, and we were only issued 2 sets of those. I've put together a complete set of my flight gear, and even found a S&W .38 revolver with a 5 inch barrel just like my old one, and would like to either find or make a holster like the RVNs made for us for my display. Any pictures or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance - Jim

Thanks for the welcome! I am a S&W fan, but can only brag about owning 2 personal S&Ws - the old Model 10 I have now, and a K-15 that I have self-inflicted bruises from for trading it off many years ago when I switched from .38 Special to 9mm auto. That one was a fantastic shooter.
My oldest brother - a retired Police Officer - still has his trusty Model 39 that he carried for 'plain-clothes' work. I've hinted and prodded over that one for years to no avail. I do have another "S&W", but it is a stainless steel PPK made under contract by S&W from Walther for CCW. It serves me very well for my purposes.
I'll be back from time-to-time. My ability to add to the wealth of S&W info here is very limited. My primary expertise is reloading and Indian Wars/Span-Am/WW1 and WW2 US military long arms and duplication of the old loads for them. Looks like you have built a fine site here!

Welcome from Texas Jim. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
There is a thread in the General Topics section under the Other brands topic relating to the unusual guns of Viet Nam.
You may have to search a few pages to locate it if the search feature is not helpful.
