Hello from upstate NY

Hello everyone,

I live near Rochester, NY. I finally got my pistol permit after a 19 month wait and joined the forum to learn more about my favorite brand handguns. I just bought my first pistol this week, it's a S&W shield in 9mm. So far I'm loving it, it's very easy and comfortable to conceal. I am now on the prowl for a 586 or 686 with a 6" barrel to use deer hunting at close range this year. My preference is the 586 due to the gorgeous combination a blued revolver has with wood grips. Thanks for the time and effort you all have put into this!

Thanks everyone. The grand total wait from when I applied until I had the permit in my mailbox was 19 months and 1 day. After 15 months judge Stephen Dinolfo requested a hearing. My hearing took 1 month to schedule. I went infront of Hon. Roy King for the hearing and I must say, he is a very nice guy and treated me well. He didn't talk down to me or treat me like a criminal like I have heard some judges do. I got my unrestricted permit 3 months after the hearing.

Anyway, I put money down on a brand new 686-6 today, should have it next week! Can't wait

Now that the shooting in Tenn just happened somehow our wonderful governor will try to campaign for more gun control.

. It took me 6 months to the day when I received my e-mail from the Wayne Co judge Dennis Kehoe approving my unrestricted license. He thanked me for my military service and for my brief time as an Island Co deputy sheriff in Washington state. That was 2 1/2 years ago.

I love the Shield. I put just over 200 rounds through it on Sunday with zero malfunctions. My only gripe is that I need to be very mindful of my right hand thumb (I'm right handed) because I have a tendency to rest it on the slide release and I'm preventing it from locking open on the last shot. I broke the gun in with 200 rounds of Perfecta 9mm ball. It was on sale at Walmart for $10.97 per box of 50. I also ran a full mag of my carry load (federal hst 124 grain) to see point of impact and to check reliability. I picked up a box of those 85 grain drt loads at Dicks, they are on clearance for $8 per 20. They also functioned flawless. I tested 4 rounds of Hornady Critical duty too, the gun had no issues but I don't like the performance of this particular round. We were capturing them in milk jugs and the critical duty's barely expand, they do penetrate though. The DRT loads completely stop in one jug, only a few tiny fragments escaped out the back. I feel HST's are the way to go.

Also, I picked up my new 686-6 today! I've wanted one forever and finally got it, can't wait to test it this weekend!
