Default Greetings from Sweden

Hi Smith & Wesson members

Thanks for a great forum. Been looking through quite a few topics/threads.

Little background info. won't 'bore' you to tears...
From England, served in the British Army then moved to Sweden.
Recently joined a pistol club. Gun laws/ownership are totally different here than in the US.

Can't just jump right in to the good stuff.
Have to start with a .22 and work on from there.
I'm trying to focus on competition shooting.
Seriously thinking of purchasing a M41
Pros/cons?
To make matters worse I'm left handed

Hope your still awake after reading that
Cheers!

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

Just took a peek at your island on google and it's beautiful. Looks like the coast of the state of Maine.

Seems a bit strange that an Army veteran can't get some credit for firearms capability. Hopefully you quickly get the permission to own the guns you really want.

Thanks for the welcome!

bigwheelzip - I was put out by not being able to get some help/recognition.
Tjörns a lovely place, I live on a small island called Klädesholmen, I nickname it Alcatraz

Ideally I would like a .22 .45 and a 9mm
.50 are banned over here.
For a .44 or .357 Magnum I would need to go to another range that is 100m (further up north in Sweden). The club I'm at has a 25m and a 50m range.

Do you mean that there is a rule that limits larger calibers to only be used at longer distances?
If your limited on the number of handguns you can own, maybe a gun with a conversion kit would help get you 2 for 1. Or one of the new modular designs with serialized internals and swapable frames, mags, barrels, and slides.

I love my CZ-75B 9mm and the Kadett II .22 conversion kit.

You weren't kidding about Alcatraz. WOW, stunning!

I bet nobody wakes you up on weekend mornings running a lawn mower.

Welcome from Las Vegas.
An M41 is a fine firearm...I had one yrs ago.
Now my .22lr plinker is a Browning Buckmark Camper, which is also a fine .22 at considerably less cost.

Welcome to the forum. I'm left handed as well and have yet to find a pistol or revolver I can't shoot. It does help that I have shot expert with both hands.

Yes (you can still shoot from a distance of 25m, but it has to be on a 100m range)

The laws/regulations are very confusing in the extreme.
Even when I applied for the course I had to get a copy of my police record and leave it into the club unopened.
I know I need a weapon safe that is SS 3492 approved.
You must get re-tested for each pistol license class (A,B,C,R&M) you have.
If you don't take part in competitions the police will not renew your license.
When purchasing any pistol within Sweden you need your club membership number and 'Svenska Pistolskytteförbundet' number along with three different forms.

Purchasing pistols within the EU is ok - again loads of paperwork.
Purchasing from the US is possible but I need to deal with an export company that has an agreement with Sweden.
The cost is $350 +3% of the total cost.
Hence the reason I would like to get this:
Product: Model 41

Backlighting - I was in Vegas awhile back, my cousin got married there. Yep, you've guessed it, cheesy Elvis wedding - great laugh.

The island is very quiet makes for a welcome change from the UK.

Last Monday was the first time I've been on a 25m pistol range for about 20 years. 5 shots (max 50 points) scored 46. Well chuffed!!!

If you don't mind something that practically shoots itself and will leave you smiling at the end of the day, then I'd say a 41 is a good choice.

My GF is a lefty and gets along with a 41 just fine, it is better with modified stocks since there is a pretty good sized thumb rest on the left side. That said, it might depend on the sort of competition you are talking about since the safety is a tiny little thing that's hard to manipulate and the mag release is on the wrong side for you.

I've nothing but nice things to say about the 41, well almost nothing. Ejection can be problematic on some guns until you get the extractor just so.

Thanks for the explanation. A shooter over there needs to be motivated.

Nice shooting after that long hiatus. Good luck pursuing the hobby.

Just found out last night when I was up there, have to score 46 or more 3 times in one calendar year to qualify for the next class (9mm .45)
2 more times....

Thanks again for the 'welcomes', you sure are a friendly crowd

Almost makes me feel guilty to have it so easy here, almost.

With those requirements I bet target guns are very popular over there. If you need a 9mm target gun for the next step, these have gotten some good reviews.
CZ-USA CZ 75 Tactical Sport Orange - CZ-USA

As a South Carolina resident, as long as you pass a criminal background check, which takes about 10 minutes, you can buy and shoot anything.

A resident who takes a one-day class here, can conceal-carry in about 80% of the states. The class focuses on legal matters and requires only a very easy written test and shooting requirement of 50 rounds fired on a man-sized target at short range.

For an additional $100 fee, you can have a silencer or shorten a rifle barrel below legal length.

Good luck with the testing requirements.

Welcome from Texas Ex.Pat. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Always grand to have a new member of the S&W family join in from across the Eastern pond.

Thanks for the good advice!
Have been looking at various CZ's
Can also get an adapter kit for it to fire .22

Other than the S&W M41 I took a look at a Hämmerli X-esse IPSC
Just purchased a second hand gun safe that I'll be collecting on Tuesday - just need to fill it then

Yes, the .22LR Kadet Adapter II is a highly rated kit that works on many CZ variations, but the Tactical Sport isn't one of them. Great way to get low cost trigger time on many of their products.

Been awhile since I last visited you guys, sorry
Bit of an update, I purchased a *cough* *cough* Tanfoglio Force 22L *cough* in December.
However...I am in the process of buying a S&W Model 17 (.22LR), 6" barrel, nickel finish
How can I find out more about this particular revolver?
The serial number is 5K255**
Cheers!

Cheers Guys!
Unfortunately my wife doesn't share my passion for firearms although a few work mates do.

The M17 will be on its way to me, just waiting for some paperwork from the club.
I have ordered a 'A' licence weapon (9mm, 10mm, .45ACP etc).
I went for a second hand Sig Sauer P226 X-five.
I can also apply for my 'R' revolver licence (this is getting expensive... )
I'm pretty much sold on the S&W 686 Deluxe (6" barrel) - pros/cons?
Thanks

At last!!!

Only been at the range once with it so far
Hardly any recoil what so ever. Smooth trigger when using S/O
Tight grouping but need to adjust the sights by a small amount, it's firing high to the right.
Only slight downside is the grips, but plenty of 'K' frame grips out there?

Sorry for the long absence.
Loads going on!
My photobucket account has gone tits up, sorry for the loss of pictures.

The M17 is working a treat, very happy with it.
I also purchased a 686 Deluxe .357 Magnum which has taken ages to arrive, finally turned up in December last year.
What a joy to shoot with

I did a IPSC course in January followed by a SASS (CAS) course at the weekend.
I also joined the NRA - was pleased that they accepted members from outside of the USA.

I have started reloading my own ammo for the 686, I load .38SPL and .357 Mag. The press is one from LEE, just a single stage but it gets the job done.

Welcome from Louisiana. Congrats on the M17 and the 686, fine guns. Thanks for joining the NRA!
I'm sure you will enjoy them.
