New membre from France
I joined this forum a couple of days ago but I had to familiarize with its use.
I have owned Smith & Wesson revolvers during some decades.
Including :
- A Smith Model 1 in 22 short cal. built dated 1865. (Sold now, I am stupid)
- A K22 22 LR bought second hand in Germany
- An M 547 Bought brand new in 1986.
I am a French veteran of Daguet Opération, the name of the French operation OPCONed to Desert Shield/Storm and due to my assignment in the TOE I used to meet Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf every day, at least in his HQ and once in the Field after a flight from Ryadh to somewhere in his liaison plane then by Blackhawk Helicopter.
I was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal given to me by Gen Scharzkopf himself at the end of operations in the KTO (Kuwaiti theater of operation).
I had participated in a CAS session vic Lexington SC in Jan. 2012 and on that day I had the chance to shoot with an antique S & W, a Schofield in 44 Russian.
I find this forum of key interest and I'll try to find through it the way to discover the date of issue of my K 22. And I am sure that I will learn far more in the future thanks to your expertise.

Bonjour from South Carolina, and bienvenue to the forum.
France was the first ally of the USA in our war for independence, as well as our decisive brothers-in-arms in that conflict. 240 years later, I pray that someday, God willing, we will be brothers-in-peace.

We spent a couple of days in Tampa and enjoyed our "tour". We visited Cape Kennedy, gator farms, Clear Water Park. We met nice people, including Gen. Schwarzkopf's replacement Gen. Hoar.
Nice people in a nice area. We even saw the space shuttle landing on Tampa air force base because the landing in Texas was impossible due to weather conditions. I was not sure of what I saw, but in "America Today", issue of Tampa, on the following day, the event was confirmed.

Thank you all for your welcome.
I visited several States and spent around one month in South Carolina. My wife and I enjoyed it as well as my daughter and her husband did. They where in SC for my son in law's job at Michelin Company first in Lexington then in Greenville. And if a part of my heart stayed in SC, other parts stayed in Florida, New Mexico, Washington DC, California or Oregon. You can understand that a large part of my old heart is stuck in the USA.
Thanks God, the last two of my four grand sons are born in Lexington, SC.
The first two were born in France but as they started to go to skool in SC, they speak good English and as they speak English when playing together, even at home, Nr 3 and Nr 4 understand now and start to speak.
And there is a sort of tradition among the military in my family: to fight alongside with the Americans for the sake of freedom. My Grand Pa during WW I, my Dad during WW II as the unit of Morrocan troops inside which he commanded an infantry Company was OPCONed to Gen. Clark's 5th Army in Italy, then myself, since I served as a French Officer in the French Rapid Reaction force in the Coalition commanded by Gen. Schwarzkopf in South West Asia.
Whatever may happen, the French remain more than friendly linked to the Americans ; even if like it may occur between brothers or close friends, somme anger may rise sometimes. We know what the Americans did for us, all these "Boys" who died in Champagne battlefields or on the beaches of Provence and Normandie as wall as in the mountains of Abruzzio. My father was alongside with Americans to seize the abbey of Monte Cassino.
My Grand Pa was an artillery corporal in Verdun but also was in the Somme area where his battalion delivered thousands of shells to support by fire the movements of US soldiers just arrived in France in early 1918 or by the end of decembre 1915.
This kind of events create close links. When I served in the NATO in the late 1990s, France was the only nation among the NATO members that had never been in war against the USA.

I kept silence for a long period due to familial events. Fortunately, my wife recovered and the life starts again. My brother, who lives in Phoenix Arizona and is a Us citizent is on vacation in France for one month. I'll spend a week with him in Avignon, France, where he owns a building in which he keeps a flat for him and his family.
Thank you to the forum for the birthday greatings. On the 4th of July we had a birthday party with my daughter and son in law. Independance Day is also my SiL's birthday. So we celebrate both events when we can be together on this day.
Take care, have good time with S&Ws and read you soon again on the forum.

I received today a friendly message for my birthday.
It is kind of you all not to forget me. I come to the forum around once a month but do not post as I have more to learn than to share.
My mom went back to the Lord on the 1st of February. She was 96 and had a peaceful end of life as she left us during her nap. Of course we feel sad but we are happy of the way God called back her to Him. And now she is again with her beloved husband who died in April 1989.
So your birthday greeting message is a kind fiendship sign. Thank you!

Welcome!!
My wife and I were in your part of France a few years back and really loved the country....
We spent a week in the Dordogne near St. Cyprien (and the village of Cladech), a week in Nice and the last week in Paris near the Notre Dame Cathedral.
Happy New Year to you as well.
