Best carry gun
Hello all! Great to be a part of this awesome community. I've read quite a few threads on here over the past couple of months and have learned a lot. I own a Smith&Wesson M&P Shield (CA compliant unfortunately, that's where i'm originally from) in .40. This gun has been my EDC in a Blackhawk CQC Holster for over a year now and I can't be more please with this firearm. It is stock as of right now but I have the Apex Flat-Faced Action Enhancement Red Trigger & Duty/Carry Kit on the way and hopefully when I get that installed I will be able to have the grip cerakoted od green. I've read a couple opinions here and there about porting the slide of the shield and it seems so far the only pros would be weight reduction and mostly looks. are there really any real benefits? I seem to see quite a few custom shields with ported slides in one way or another and if there is more benefit than looks I wouldn't mind looking into it. Also any suggestions on what can be done with the CA compliant "loaded when up" slot? Thanks and I look forward to being a member of an awesome community.

Welcome to the forum. They say porting will reduce recoil and therefore let you come back on target sooner.
If I'm in a shooting situation I just hope I point it in the right direction and hold steady with the first shot.

Slide weights less so it travels faster thus faster back on target. However.......If you aren't practicing constantly you won't see the difference. It makes sense for people who compete and shoot for speed where 0.001 of a second counts. So unless you can draw, point, shoot and hit your target in a second and a half you won't know the difference

Not So Fast
I believe that those hi-paid engineers in the employ of the various gun companies figure out all sorts of things that are beyond our ability to calculate such as the inter-relationship between slide weight and velocity, range of expected ammunition power, spring strength, etc. When you tamper with that formula, you run the risk of rendering the gun less reliable or actually shortening its useful life.
As the anonymous immortal philosopher once said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
In my opinion, enjoy the gun as is.
