Default Newbie from California

Hello, All!

I've lurked this forum long and enough and figured I'd may as well join. A little about me... I have been involved in the LE community for over 8 years serving as a contractor for an FLEA under the US DOJ umbrella. I am a recent graduate of a CA police academy and my status is pending completion of the process at which point I will be leaving my FLEA.

I am a martial arts instructor and have been teaching Hapkido and Taekwondo for over 9 years. During the most recent 2+ years of my life, I've added CA DOJ Firearms Safety Instructor and NRA RSO certifications. As a result, I moonlight at a local FFL/gun range so I am on the front-lines of educating the community, training new and old shooters, and fighting off the anti-gun groups and legislators.

I'm semi-new to the M&P line up, but have repeatedly been drawn back to the ergos and overall quality of the pistols.

My first M&P was a Shield and boy is that thing a laser. It's the CA version, but has been modified to remove all CA features and dons the Magguts +2 spring kits. This is my primary carry.

I purchased a 9C shortly after and have enjoyed it, but after obtaining the Magguts parts and regularly carrying 10 rounds in a slimmer package, I didn't see a practical need to have a 9C any longer. We're limited to 10 rounds in CA after all.

I recently traded the 9C for M&P40 FS and already have a .357 Sig bbl and 9mm Stormlake conversion bbl on the way. I like having the option to convert all calibers and already do this with my Sig Sauer P320, but it just doesn't feel like an M&P.

Go easy on me. I'm here to absorb info like a sponge. Thanks and stay safe.

EDIT:

Here is my first contribution of knowledge to the forum:

CA Compliant Shield Modications & Magguts +2 Kit

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

It's a great place for sponging up and contributing a huge variety of knowledge from a fine and generous group of folks.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I'm trying to understand the differences between the various generations of M&P pistols. S&W has updated this pistol numerous times apparently.

Welcome from Idaho! What did you do to remove CA compliant portions of the shield? In the same boat looking to get rid of it since I'm no longer in CA

Here you go, Idaho. I basically copied and pasted the thread from my local forum so the timeline is a bit out of touch, but I'll clean it up later.

You may be better off just selling it off to getting a new shield, but that's up to you.
