Kat + Pistols= True love!
Hello Everyone,
I'm completely new to the world of firearms; I grew up in a household that didn't allow even neon, purple, clear, squirt guns. Due to the changing world we live in, me being a small framed girl (who THINKS she's tough haha), I decided I was not going to be a victim, nor will anyone near me should an attack transpire. I purchased my first M&P Ported 9mm (I would like a larger caliber once I advance in technique and knowledge).
Im looking for people (experts) that are willing to teach, and answer stupid questions newbies ask when getting started. I've got basics down; I'm working on technique and accuracy. I will also be starting a thread about my casings ejecting and landing between my eye and my eye protection, thus burning me. The cartridges also eject and hit me in the face, head, go down my shirt, it's ridiculous!!!

Welcome to the forum !
There's a ton of knowledge and experience here, and the only stupid question is the question that didn't get asked.
Don't sweat it, it's real friendly here.

Welcome from Wisconsin, Kat!
Don't worry about asking "stupid" questions. The only stupid questions are the ones that go unasked.

Welcome from West Virginia. I have found with several
new pistols that brass in the face will happen until you get
several hundred round through the gun. After that, never.
This has happened with two new Colt's, a couple of Kahrs,
a Ruger SR1911 and a Sig Sauer. They all did it at first.

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.
Where I shoot, the lane divider walls are steel and close together and will bounce hot brass cases all over me. The first time shooting a semi-auto there, I had to tape my V-neck top to my chest to stop the burned cleavage. Now I dress with tight collar openings and a baseball cap and push my glasses tight to my face.
It also helps to be aware of the shooter to your left, in case their brass comes for a visit.
For a much more civilized shooting experience, revolvers leave the brass in the gun, where you put it.

Welcome from Wisconsin.
The info floating about here has been of great use to me and I am sure you will find the same to be true. BUT, I have also noticed that if you ask if you should buy this or that gun (particularly a S&W) the answer is almost always going to be YES. Terrible bunch of enablers lurking about here...
The current Glock 19 that I bought recently has a reputation for "brass to face" ejections. For me, I tend to have that problem when I get sloppy with my grip. Perhaps that is an issue to research for your M&P. I have not heard of people having a problem with their M&P's like the Gen 4 Glocks.
A billed ball cap is a good deflector too. Have fun on the forum and if you can't find the answer to your questions in the search function ask away.
Always be careful about following links even here but, here is the search results using the Google search line for this forum on "brass to face." I have not read many of the threads and you will have to decide if there is any useful info. Just be aware that many of the threads are old and you can but might not want to comment and revive an old thread versus starting a new one specific to your questions.

Hi!!! Thanks so much for the reply!! I didn't have a problem with my firearm ejecting backwards until AFTER I fed it several thousands of rounds; I have a serious shooting addiction . I'm at the range 2-3 times a week. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong while cleaning it?!? I feed Fiocchi ball through it just fine, it seems to be the Brazer Bass and Winchester (both FMJ) I have issues with....

I wouldn't presume to know enough to say what is really at issue for your ejections other than I have constantly read around here and other forums that your gun often picks what ammo it likes.
Sounds like your M&P likes Italian. If you aren't aware, Perfecta 9mm ammo at Walmart is made in Italy. Many are convinced it is also made by Fiocchi and distributed by Tulammo. At $9.78 for a box of 50 that is all I tend to buy nowadays. A lot of others do too since the spot in the ammo case is often bare but I tend to take a look when I am in there for something else.
Hope this is helpful a little at least.

Welcome from Alabama. Find a good gunsmith, tell him how your gun is ejecting the cases and ask him if he can adjust/tweet the ejector. It might need to be cut at a slightly different angle to hold the shell differently or might need to be slightly bent.

Thank You SO much Richard M!!! I'll definitely look for a good gunsmith! Any hallmarks I should look for when choosing one?

SCONNIE! Saving the day again! I think my gun does like Italian! Lol!!! I can't say I haven't been highly impressed with the Fiocchi! I'm going to try the Perfecta though too! 9.78 for a box is unheard of!!! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!

Word of mouth, reputation, story in a gun magazine. Maybe you can start a new thread asking what gunsmith do you recommend and why and what type of work or gun do they specialize in. I use Actions By 'T'. Gunsmith Teddy Jacobson is located in
Sugar Land, TX. You can call him at 281-565-6977 anytime between 10AM - 5PM C.T. ANY DAY.

I'm a fan of both revolvers and pistols but a revolver would solve the flying brass problems, unless it is coming from the next lane.
Welcome and good luck!
