Default Howdy to everyone from Utah's High Desert...

Long time gun owner...shooter...reloader...hunter....slowing down
on the huntin' part...goes with age & Medicare coverage I guess
Have always been into S&W revolvers...back in the 70's when Clint Eastwood was S&W's main advertisement..I had a 17...27..and 29 all with the 8 3/8" tube...actually found the receipt from my 29 purchase in 1976 for $307 OTD...yes those revolvers have been sold quite a few years ago...then along came a 629..622...& 617...seems they are gone too....yes we all go through certain stages in life......
For the last 15 years I've been assembling my own LR Savage target/p-dog rigs....Savage action & Pac Nor barrels...passed on my knowledge & interests to some buddies..got to the point in life when I asked myself...just many $2K p/dog set ups does one guy need ?' Still do that sport..just using what rifles I have set up...my fav is probably the 20-Duece (20-222)...no Walmart ammo for this one...
Most recently Marlin lever guns caught my eye....22's in the 39 Mountie...357...44..45 Colt in 1894's....no collection would be complete without the timeless classic 45-70 in a 26" Cowboy gun......
Anyhow.....I live in Podunk Utah...small farm with enough work to get me busy....retired since 2011....drove a Brown truck for UPS for 27 years...married...send off the wife to work everyday........... Joined the S&W forum to learn more about the products from '70's forward....the S/N system & 'dashes' are more confusing than Marlin's system...so if I ask alot of questions you'll understand....
Pic test now.........hope I don't get banned for a Marlin pic......1954 Mountie......

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

Love touring Utah. It like a walk-through geology class.

Curious about a couple of things on your pictured Marlin. What's that enormous slotted screw looking thing on the side for, and why do yo need a knurled knob on the end of the magazine tube for?

Welcome from West Virginia!!

You don't have to ignore the pre 1970s Smiths, though, some of the finest craftsmanship was to be found between 1899 and the 1970s!!

Great that you posted a pic first thing. That is a great looking rifle. And the scenery ain't bad, either. As bigwheelzip says, Utah is a beautiful place to be. I used to have family in St. George, and have visited with them there, and driven over much of the state. Lovely.

Best Regards, Les

the slotted screw is the '39 take down screw....makes cleaning

and a snap for a carry on bag........ simply use a quarter

to loosen & tighten..lightly bump left side of barrel & rifle breaks

down into two pieces once you loosen screw...pull the bolt...lock

the ejector in place and run 2-3 patches..reassemble ! V E R Y

well machined rifle.....Called the Cadillac of 22 lever guns...the

knurled mag tube knob just makes easier to lock tube...yes...

Utah is a great place to be...especially in 'Podunk'

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not in your league, but I have a 1973 Marlin Glenfield Model 60 given me by my dad. Super reliable and still accurate.

It now rests in the safe with my 9 yo grandson's name on it.
