Default New member from Texas.

Hi y'all. My names Marty. I'm not new to Smith and Wesson, as I owned several over the years. And, I have carried several Smith's as duty weapons. Mostly, I've owned and carried Smith K and L framed .357's. The department where I work still uses some Smith and Wesson model 65's. They're slow to change.

I owned the revolvers all through the 80's, and early 90's. Then I used a few of Smiths semi auto's. A 4506, 4516 and a 5906. They were all great guns, but a bit heavy carrying all day for me. Then I discovered how much I liked the light weight of the polymer guns. I became a Glock man. I took lots of flack at the Sheriff department where I was a reserve deputy. They seemed to feel if it wasn't an all metal gun it was ****. I enjoyed outshooting them at the range with my PLASTIC gun. So, I continued to carry Glocks both on and off duty, and I still do.

Fast forward to today. My department now uses some M and P's for their transportation department. I shot those and like them a lot. So, when I saw the 75 dollar rebates available on the Shields, I had to have one. I own 9mm Glocks, and a 1911 in .45. I have always enjoyed my .45's, including the heavier steel Smith .45's I had in the past. So, I ordered a Shield .45 from PSA. They were the cheapest price around, and they seemed to get favorable reviews on service. My shield arrived, and I'm a happy camper.

Now, I've never thought I'd ever find a polymer .45 that was both small enough to conceal carry easily, yet large enough to have decent capacity, AND not beat me to death. I think I've finally found that in the Shield .45. I'm looking forward to many years of packing my Shield .45 off duty. The trigger on this new Shield .45 is very nice. It beats my Glocks by a mile. In fact, I like it so well that I can see myself buying the larger 2.0 eventually.

My only concern on the the new shield, and it's a small one that I think I've already rectified, is the rough feeling grip texture. it was a bit rough on bare skin(unlike my hands, my belly skin is tender, lol). So, I just took the Mrs's emory board and just smoothed it up a touch. It's still got great grip, just a little more nice on my tender belly skin. Down here in Texas during the summer I mostly wear a loose fitting fishing shirt untucked, and no t-shirt. So, comfort is a must for me. Overall, this new Shield .45 is shaping up to be a fantastic conceal carry gun. Thank you Smith and Wesson!!

Default And a..

And a Hound Dawg Howdy from SC!

Some people have actually sanded their grips. You're not the only one that thinks that texture is TOO aggressive. Kinda like the big serrations on some slides that are as sharp as knives.

Welcome to the forum. Nothing like getting a new gun that fills the needs very well. I found that when I went to a Charter Bulldog 44.
I have yet to handle a Shield but all I hear is that it is well liked.
