Long time lurker
Greetings, long time hang around reading the forum and finally signed up. 11 year old daughter and I shoot ICORE and Revo division in USPSA. The 12 year old daughter says wheel guns are "old people guns".

I'd love to hear about the process you used to get your daughter shooting competitively.

Honestly just always took them to the range with me. The 12 year old started at age 8, and the 11 year old started last year thanks to encouragement from Julie Golob. The 14 year old has gotten into PRS this year.
12 year old loves 3 gun, 11 year old shoots a 627 Performance Center in ICORE, and USPSA as well as 3 gun. All 3 girls started off "aim small, miss small", and just having fun.

Welcome to the Smith & Wesson Forum from Central Florida shrek926!
I'm an old USPSA shooter myself, I haven't shot competitively in years due to problems with arthritis in my knees, but I've kept up my membership, to give you an idea when I started out, my member number is TY12055.

With revo matches few and far between, we usually are the only wheelies at our local USPSA matches.

I've started my 10 yr old granddaughter over the past year with a single shot 22 rifle. She's graduating to a Browning 22 semi auto now. We do a lot of wandering through the woods so she has gained excellent muzzel awareness and control. She'll take a hunter safety course in a couple weeks.
Your 11 year old is way ahead in terms of handguns.

That's great, it's scary how many adults don't understand muzzle control.
I swore off forums several years ago, but with our love of S&W... this seemed a smart choice.

Great to have you!!
I need to see what USPSA action exists near us to see if granddaughter may be interested.
I shot a good deal of IPSC in the '80's, but moved away from it when the guns ceased to resemble anything practical.

Well thank you, and there are plenty of junior shooters and supportive parents. Get her out to check it out, I'm sure she'll have a blast and catch the bug.

I will!! Her Dad (my son) and her mom are indifferent (both vets) but she's eager to learn. Hooking up with othe like minded kids would be just the thing.

Absolutely. Our shooting family is great, NRAAM this year was like a family reunion.

Welcome from Wisconsin!
You daughter will think I'm built upside down - When I was young I had wheel guns & now that I'm old I have auto loaders, LOL.

Welcome from Central NY. It's great you have gotten your daughters involved in the shooting sports. Only one of my 4 kids got into it and one one of 8 of my grandkids have, but 4 are still too young.
I teach kids 12-18 NRA Basic rifle, but nothing in pistol. 12 is the youngest we are allowed to teach them in NYS, their parent can start them younger.
Getting kids (and all women) into shooting and hunting is the whole future of the sport. If you get a guy interested, you often gain 1, if you get a girl or women interested, they bring the whole family.
Again, welcome aboard. Great pictures too!
