Travis Strahan
One of the best gunsmiths on this planet is Travis Strahan of North Georgia. Travis taught me how to hot blue back in the 80's. We became good friends, brothers in Christ. I actually became very, very good at bluing and electroless nickel plating which Colt called "Coltguard" back then. Travis and I spent many hours together at his shop while he worked and I learned a ton from him. When Travis finished a piece I would do the bluing or nickel for him so it's possible if you have something from him that I did the bluing. Another good friend of ours was Ralph Ingle, Master Engraver of Rossville, GA. I have done work, bluing and nickel for Ralph as well and in fact have a 1911 with Ralph's engraving on the slide. On that particular gun, I put hot blue AND electroless nickel plating on the frame in two separate processes, the flat sides being hot blue and the radius surfaces matt electroless nickel. Travis and I had a good time together, often going out to lunch, then back to the shop for more learning on my part and work on his part! Travis also built a model 66 for me and it's a wonderful gun.
I am so proud of being able to call Travis my friend, I have not had any contact with him in so many years, I hope he is alive and well. I will call today and if he's still kicking around I hope to bring up fond memories together.
Thanks all for reading... I remain in Christ:
Robert (Bob) Gough

Update on Travis Strahan. First of all for those that don't know him, please Google him and you will find out his accomplishments which are many in the gun world. What a man of Christ. I am so sad to pass on after talking with his grandson, Brian, that Travis has been stricken with Alzheimer's disease and is in a nursing home in Winchester, TN. I am so sorry to hear of this but his wife, Dorthy is still doing well.
Live your life the best you can each day folks, because good memories are what you will have left in your times of adversity.

Welcome from North Dakota Nice story. I have similar fond memories of George Midaugh who owned an old fashion gun shop in my home town from right after WWII up until his death in the early '70s.
