Default Newbie

My husband has been trying to get me to learn to shoot for years. I don't really like guns, but I have been seriously thinking about it lately. He has had me try to shoot his gun, but the problem is, I am right handed, and for the life of me, I cannot close my left eye. And I right eye dominant. Don't laugh! 😁Any suggestions?

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

I suppose an eye patch would do the trick for target shooting. For self-defense, practice point shooting.

Welcome to the forum.

I shoot with both eyes open.

I am left handed and left eye dominant but practice often with the right hand and yes you have to work hard at knowing which eye is sighting the target. But that is the fun of it.

Welcome from Wisconsin!

I know a few that have the same problem & they have no problems getting on target. Each time I'm at the range I practice with both hands & also use the non-dominant eye. You can never tell when your strong hand or strong eye will become disabled.

Welcome.

Having one eye dominant and it being the opposite-side eye can be an issue for folks shooting rifles but this isn't much of an impediment when shooting handguns, especially when shooting two-handed.

I'm just not seeing why either you or your husband consider this some kind of hindrance.

Pick up the handgun with your dominant hand, use your other hand for support and bring the handgun to eye level and it will naturally line up behind whichever eye your brain chooses.

It's really not going to matter which eye.

Welcome from the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.

I shoot with both eyes open. Since I'm cross dominant, I gotta turn my head a bit to line up the sights.
