Victory model 38spl
I am trying to find information on my Victory model SN V61997,
4" revolver. The butt has a small ordnance bomb with the number 370 stamped over it. The serial number indicates it could be made in 1942. It would seem an early Victory model.
The finish is worn, but looks like it was dull blue, not parkerized.
the pistol is tight and the bore is excellent. the numbers all match including the grips. Was it made in 1942 and what could the value be?
Any help is appreciated. :)
Thanks,
Victory42

Welcome from Wisconsin!
I'm sorry I can't answer your questions but I'm sure someone will be along who can. That failing you can always post your questions in one of the revolver forums located near the top of the page. Good luck!

Welcome from NH.
As Glenn said, go to S&W Hand Ejectors 1896-1961 thread near forum menu start and locate the Victory Data base thread. Post you info to find out date and other info on your Victory. Also, see if there is anything stamped on the top strap on the left side

Smith and Wesson Letter of Authenticity
Do an internet search for a Smith and Wesson Letter of Authenticity. Download the request form, fill it out and send it along with $75.00 and (eventually) you will find out when it was produced and where it was shipped. I have one that I found was shipped to an aircraft parts manufacturer in Burbank, CA to be used by their security officers during the war. The letter is worth the money. Having matching serial numbers is a big plus as many were rebuilt or modified. Good luck!

It looks like park instead of blue to me, and the 370 mark could have come from anywhere

Welcome from the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. The 370 stamp is not factory and is probably an inventory number applied during it's use in WW2 era by a non-military civilian organization such as a defense plant or police dep't., and the gun was shipped to, or for, the Defense Supply Commission in 1942. Get a factory letter, as you may find out it went to a very interesting destination. Ed.
