New to site - Proud Owner of New S&W Governor
Hello to All,
I am the proud owner of a new S&W Governor.
So many choices for ammo? Any recommendations from those of you who have had the Governor for a while. I have not shot the weapon yet. So any help with what ammo works and does not work well with the pistol is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SIII

Welcome. I have had an issue with cheap low brass .410 ammo. The brass will collapse behind the cylinder star and lock the cylinder up. Use expensive mainstream SD ammo (Winchester PDX is my go to) and you’ll be fine . . .

Welcome. One of my neighbors who is a big Colt SAA guy says the Governor is the finest, all-around, farm and ranch gun ever made. He uses the PDX and various other buckshot loads in his.

Welcome from Washington State, no Governor but I did have a Taurus Judge. I will second the PDX 410 bore ammunition as well as cheap 410 not advised.

Welcome !
Don’t forget that you can use real handgun ammo in your gun!
45lc and 45acp from virtually any manufacturer is better sd ammo than the 410 stuff

Welcome from Georgia. I don't own a Governor, but I've always thought one loaded with two .410 buckshot loads and four .45ACP's would make a great night stand weapon.

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina. I like the Remington Ultimate Defense Combo Pack 410 bore 45 Colt ammo for my Governor.
I stopped screwing around with the .45 ACP moon clips years ago.
I've stuck to buying a 20 round combo pack every two years since I bought the Gov in 2013. The pack contains 10 each 410 bore 2-1/2" shells with 000 Buckshot (4 Pellets) and .45 Colt 230 gr bonded jacketed hollow point ammo.

I have the silver one like yours the cheap 410 ammo does get tight to eject, it shoots 45 Colt pretty hard 45 acp is right on . I had some 45 Gap left over and it clipped right up and also shot very well . Good to go . I picked the Desantis open top holster rig .

Welcome to the forum. The Governor is a fun gun to own and shoot. My friends get a kick out of it too. I got an inexpensive holster somewhere that has loops for .410 shells on the outside. Completely impractical but great looking!

Shot today
Went and shot the Governor at the Nardis Gun Club today. A couple spaces over was a young man teaching his wife how to shoot a .22 revolver. When I shot the first round from the Governor (Colt 45) she asked her husband "What the hell was that?" LOL Shooting is so much fun. Always getting to meet new people and make friends. Life is good.

At least she said something. I love it when they quietly move 5 lanes down or pack up their stuff and leave. You know exactly why and it ain't your body odor.
We're allowed to shoot 12 gauge buck at the indoor range I frequent and it tends to scatter the crowd.
