Hi from Downunder
Hi guys & gals,
Newbie from Australia, have just purchased my first S&W gun a 586-1 357 mag revolver, built around 1987 but in not to bad condition. I placed a thread in the smithing forum as I am after a gas ring for her, seemsb to be a missing part, but s&w are not much help, no parts. Any how hopefully I can ask some questions and get some answers from you guys. Cheers
Russ :-)

Greetings, From South Carolina.
I am new to guns so I probably wouldn’t be much help, but have you downloaded the schematic diagram for your revolver? If you can get the part number of what you need it would be a start

Welcome to the forum from SW Ohio. Have you look at gunpartscorp.com? They show the gas ring for the 586-1 in stock for $8.00 US. Good Luck.

Welcome from Texas.
If you get a minute maybe you can start a new thread and give us an update on the gun laws in Oz and so forth and what you can and cannot own.

G'day Russ
You're not the only Aussie on here. There are a few. I'm a S&W shooter and collector from Sydney.
Sorry but can't help with those parts.
Cheers

Gunparts corp has your part. I thought a handgun was restricted Post 1993?... and a short list of semi autos with 5 rds mags. As to importing parts if Under 100.00USD in value and not a restricted part ( Receiver) it can be mailed direct, Ive bought M1 Garand parts from Italy, Greece, Canada without a issue. PS Welcome...My dad spent 4 years in the 1970's building a Atomic power plant their, Had a 1960 Humber that he LOVED...like a Mini RR in looks and quality.

And a......
And a Hound Dawg Howdy to you from SC, USA!
That's a problem with S&W concerning overseas customers. They want to do all their own work which requires getting the gun back to the factory. With 'help' over the phone being the way it it is, I wouldn't expect much but if you call the factory and have the model and serial number handy, they might at least be able to arrange something.
o/' So you come from the land down undeeer o/'

Well let me first say how overwhelmed I am from your support, a BIG Thankyou to you all for making me welcome. I had the part number and have contacted a few suppliers in USA but no one will export the little thing to me, bugger . Never mind, it does not stop me using the revolver but I think it is the reason the cylinder does not flip out easily. But once again thanks guys

But you may try slackening the yoke screw to adress the stiff cylinder. Also check that the screws are in their proper holes, as they are not interchangeable.

That's exactly what I what I was going to say except I don't drink much beer but Australian wine will do just fine, thank you very much....
Reminds me of 30 or so years ago, I was on a listserv discussion group on firearms and we had a member in South Africa who needed to load hunting rounds but the bullet companies wouldn't ship him the bullets. I bought a box of fifty bullets and shipped it to him, no problem; made him a very happy camper.

Welcome from Taranaki New Zealand.
Brownells is about the only US supplier that will ship Down Under. But as shown above there are some very good people here who will order and reship to you. I am fortunate to have a forum buddy who will do this for me (it helps that we have actually met in real life).
Anything over US$100 I ship through Borderview International in Washington State. They give you a US postal address to ship to, complete export documentation and repack/reship to you. Cost is around US$50 plus 5% of the item value plus postage, so not cheap but good for those things you "need but simply cannot get locally".
Payment is a bit tricky as you will need to fudge the credit card billing address to match the one on your card, and with some suppliers that is not possible to do due to their on line ordering systems.
Best of luck.
