New Senior from N. Ga. Mountains
Not really a foreigner - I discovered my forum handle through a typo. I am 73 & a survivor of a lifetime of motorcycling, heart & cancer ordeals, & a career in academia (which was the most rugged).
I'm here for purely selfish interests, for information & possibly to locate an antique smith revolver I'm interested in. I've been saving up - to replace the S&W model 1917 that I sold some years ago - & regretted it ever since. (I bought it from a student who had spoken of shooting himself) It was sort of a win-win situation - he is probably still around, & I became interested in old S&W revolvers.
Last week I came across a very pretty nickel plated S&W model 1902, made in 1903, 5", round butt, original grips matching numbers, in 38spl. So I dipped into my 1917 savings to buy it. Its action is buttery smooth, trigger pulls in DA & SA are amazing. the Bore could be better - but the old revolver is Jewelry quality & a mechanical marvel.
I'm glad I got it - although I'll need to wait longer to save for a 1917 - even though I'd be satisfied with a clean shooter grade Brazilian Contract M.37
Love to receive leads about any available 1917s.
Best wishes to everyone, hope all are enjoying the nice fall weather, & staying well & safe.
*BTW, My wife & I adopted a rescue "MONTAIN FEIST" DOG, at this time last year. We have had one of our best years ever - because of this. Highly recommended to all. C.

Congrats on the gun rescue and double kudos to you both on the Feist rescue.

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina. Congrats on the revolver purchase. Being originally from the mountains of western North Carolina I would love to see a photo of your "mountain feist".

Welcome to the S&W fraternity from SC. The only thing that could have gone better is to have purchased the 1917 several years ago. The prices have skyrocketed along with the military 1911 45 autos. What used to be a $350 gun is now $850 if you're lucky. So keep saving up. They are neat guns.

NW Alabama greetings. Yours is a beautiful part of the country. I've been in the area a couple of times. Tallulah Falls, IIRC? Or is it Toccoa Falls? I remember the town of Toccoa. Made the climb to the top of that right after breaking two ribs playing football. That wasn't fun but the view was great. Don't know what it's like now but it was a very unimproved trail back then (early 70s). Hope you find your 1917, and if there's two of them, let me know.

Welcome from a little to the south. North Georgia is a great place for motorcycle riding. Didn't make it up there on mine this year.

Here you go. I had never heard of a Mountain Feist before. It was explained to me as a "terrier mix specializing in pursuit of squirrels" by the rescue ladies who said "part Jack Russel & ?" - He sure looks & acts terrier-ish. He also looks like some pictures of other Fiests. but I have been duped by ladies before - IMO "got lucky" this time - Good looking, great friend & playmate.

Welcome from the far southern end of GA. I hope your getting nicer weather up there then what i'm dealing with on the coast. Still in the 80's for the most part right now. Good looking pup, had a Jack Russell so if he is anything like that he'll keep you busy. Great dog for letting you know if anyone or anything is around though.

When I was a kid we spent two weeks of every summer in a friend’s cabin between Helen & Hiawassee. I could shoot every day and we slept with the windows open & the sound of a creek running by. I’ve had a soft spot for North Georgia ever since.
I agree- a good example of a 1917 revolver is a must have.
Welcome to the best forum around.
Regards,

Welcome to the Forum from south-central Pennsylvania!
I'm certain you will enjoy it here. Make use of the 'search' feature for the 1917. You will find results that will keep you involved for days, and the education will be amazing. I have three 1917's and thoroughly enjoy shooting two of them (one is just too nice to shoot IMO). Here's something to keep you interested:
