Favorite powder for .40?
Any suggestions on powder for 40 S&W? I have Bullseye and Unique that I've been using on my 38Special loads. Some of the data I've been looking at show loads for those powders... others don't even list them.
I have 180gr FlatNosePlated bullets. Any suggestions?

How fast do you want to go? Unique, 231, titegroup work up to about 900+fps.

It will depend on what you are shooting them out of. I am using SR4756 at present because I get great velocity with less pressure, at least according to Hodgdon than many other powder I have used. Longshot is even better in that regard but I haven't tried it yet.
If you are going to use your rounds in a revolver only, use Bullseye or Unique and never look back. If you are going to shoot them in a Glock or another semi-auto that has an unsupported chamber I would not go with anything faster than Unique, that's just me though.
Many have and haven't had a problem. I try to avoid them in other ways!

You have to push BE & TG hard to get a 900fps/180gr load, shelf the BE. Unique works great for mid range to full power 40s. Start w/ 5.5gr & work to 6.5gr max (Speer shows 6.7gr but it is very hot). My best loads are put together w/ WSF though, very accurate.

I prefer WST over 231, finding it cleaner and better-metering. VV N350 is excellent, if expensive.
I have friends who use TiteGroup under their 180 jacketed bullets and are quite happy with it.

If you can get the bullets in aren't the cases hard to extract?

Drive 'em in, then drive 'em out.

More Bullseye is sold for reloading than any
powder, and will be fine for your 40 cal. Save money and use what you have. Don

Which doesn't mean a lot I the context of the question. BE works, but it depends on what you are trying to do.

Just got my load notebook out - 4.8 grains of WST with a 165 grain Berry's plated FN bullet. 1.125 COL. Shoots great in my old work Gen 3 G22. Haven't tried loading 180 grain bullets yet. The Winchester powder web page shows numerous .40 load data combinations. YMMV.

I use Clays, almost exclusively in my 40s. It meters well, and shoots very clean. The downside is, finding it. It has been in very short supply for quite a while now.

Been loading 5.1 grains over 165 grain X-tream bullets for 980FPS. using this load out of a KKM barrel has made a very accurate load and a joy to shoot.

IMO you can easily use what you have years ago when I got my first 40sw I used both your powders and was happy with the results. I have now been using AA#5 @6.3gr with a 180gr fp just under 900fps out of my Glock 23. AA#5 meters like water I really like it for 9, 40sw and 45acp. I still wish I could find some Unique I use it for "fun" loads in my 45-70 lever rifle.
