Don't have my reloading logs with me (this is from memory) but for a good load would be a 210 gr LSWC with 8 grs Unique for about 950 fps.

My primary defensive load is 8.0 grains of Unique under a Lee 410-208-WC. My secondary is 8.0 grains of Unique under a Lyman 410610.

For light plinking I use 5 grains of Bullseye under roundballs, light WCs or 175-185 SWCs. 4 grains of BE under 210-220 grain SWCs or 3 grains of BE under the 208 WC.

15.0 grains of 2400 with a 210 hard cast. Good practice load.

I posted a similar inquiry some time ago. After tabulating the replies, 7.0 grains of Unique and the 210 -220 grain bullet was the most used.

That load shoots very well with every bullet I have tried and is my standard.

These 215gr LSWC loads have shot good in my pistols. The 7.0gr W231 load is close to the old Police load in velocity. I've loaded a lot using 7.8grs of Unique that should be close to the same as 7.0grs of W231.

Ditto. That is an extremely accurate load in my guns.

You might want to try IMR4227 at about 1000 to 1100 fps with a cast 215 SWC. In one of my guns, it is 100 yards accuate. IMR4227 also works well with jacketed bullets. You wont get full power hunting load velocity out of IMR4227, but you will get excellent accuracy and much reduced recoil.

210 cast bullet and 8.1 grains of Unique makes a nice mild load that will still take deer and not kill you with recoil.

I just started reloading .41 mag this year and used Starline brass, 215 grain bullets from Missouri Bullet CO. and powder from an an old can of 4756 that I wanted to use up anyway. Nine grains gave me an average velocity of 1155 fps with an E.S. 17 and S.D. of 7 which I thought was very impressive. Accuracy was great. I may have to look for some more 4756.

Edit - forgot to mention, gun was a model 57 no-dash with 8 3/8 inch barrel.

My favorite loads used a true Keith-style 220gr SWC (Lyman 410459) and 16grs Blue Dot. But for some reason , Alliant isn't recommending B-D use in the .41 anymore. However I've had excellent results with it.

A word of experienced caution. The Lyman/Keith bullet carrys a lot of mass in the nose. It has a rather short shank compared to most other 210-220gr cast SWCs or jacketed bullets. That means more room in the case. Other bullets , having a smaller front and more shank , will compress the charge , resulting in high pressure. I found this out by substituting the RCBS 210 cast SWC.

Do not use Lyman 410459 data with any other bullet. When nearing max loads , pay particular attention to the amount of bullet in the case. The amount of compression ya put on a powder charge is just as if not more important than the amount of powder.

I have two loads for 210 gr SWCs.
Plinking load is 7.0 gr of 231.
Serious load is 18 gr of 296.

I have a bunch of jacketed bullets but was going to try this 195 grain lee mold may try to find that keith style

For hunting I use a 265 gr hard cast lead this is a wide flat nose, gas checked bullet. I use a healthy load of 296 and mag primers.

This load has killed many white tail. Longest shot was 85 yards and an instant kill (neck shot).

Took this hunting once for boar and killed a 250 lb boar, also at 85 yards also a neck shot and also an instant kill.

The gun is a S&W PC 8-3/8 657 hunter. It wears a 2x leupold scope.

My next favorite gun is a rifle. Marlin lever gun in 41 mag.

Do you use the same recipe for both the Marlin and the Smith? I am having trouble finding one that both will function with well. Mike Rintoul (Rintoul enterprises - bullet maker) tells me that the 255 gr hardcast is the best for both worlds. He says the 265 won't feed in a Marlin?

Anybody have any ideas on one round for the revolver and the carbine?
