Default pre 29 load

Does anyone have an opinion on 13.3grs. AA#5; 215gr.SWC wheel weight
cast for a pre 29,6.5" barrel, chrono's 1270fps @10' will this load cause undue wear, shoots great from this revolver. Thanks for any input.

In my AAC fifth edition reloading guide it says that in a Redhawk with a 7.5" bbl., they got the following using AA#5

215 lead bullet-11.7 starting load- cci 300 primer- win cases- gave 1157 fps

215 lead bullet-13.0 maximum load- cci 300 primer- win cases- gave 1300 fps

I would say based on their own data, that you may want to back down just a bit. Their gun had a longer barrel than yours, so that may account for some of the velocity difference even though your load is a bit warmer. There is no reason to push an old classic like yours too hard.

I hope that helps.

I have an early 5 screw pre 29 which I shoot regularly, but only with loads that are about 1000 fps. I don't go much over 1200 with any of my 29-2's or 29-3's either. I save the heavy loads for my Ruger Bisley.
If I wanted to shoot that heavy a load, I would buy a new 29. Just MHO.

Thanks for the input gentlemen, was using the Lee Modern Reloading Manual Second Addition info (2003) which lists a starting load of 13.3grs. AA#5 @1293fps and a maximum of 14.8grs for 1469fps and 38900CUP, but I realy don't want to put any excessive stress on the old 44.
