Blazer brass ?
A friend gave me 12 boxes of once fired Blazer brass 45 cases. It is marked CCI on the bottom. Anybody know who makes this brass for the CCI Blazer 45 brand? Thanks

Thanks. I thought Rem or Winchester maybe made it for them and marked it CCI.

CCI and Federal are both owned by ATK.

Check to see if they are SMALL primers or the regular large ones. The small primer brass will give you a bad day when reloading.

Heck, even with the small primer a guy could make allowances if he had 12 boxes.

I've only been shooting .45 Blazer (brass) ammo this year, but all of it has been small primer. Your stuff must precede the change.

I don't see what the big deal is with the small pistol primer brass in the .45 ACP. so you reprime with small primers instead of large pistol primers. Sort your brass and load up with the same powder charges, you might lose 30 or 40 fps off your loads with the large primers, but you may even find accuracy improved, depending on your load. I have loaded both versions without issue. BTW, some of the cheaper Federal .45 ACP is also being sold with the small pistol primers. Rumor is soon ALL .45 ACP ammo will be produced with the small primers.

Blazer headstamped brass is now mostly small primer
CCI head stamped is large primer even though it may have come out of a box labeled Blazer Brass.
There is no big deal other than when a small primer piece gets mixed in with a regular batch of large primer brass.
Tends to throw things off a bit. I am not looking through a 5 gal bucket to find one or two pieces of it. Just like the occasional Berdan primed piece that strikes now and then.

The only problem is when users of progressive presses don't inspect the cases before dumping them into the case feed hopper. So, when a small primer pocket case is run through a machine set up for large primers, the press gets jammed up. I have reloaded both large and small primed 45 ACP cases and can tell no difference.

The Walmarts in my area are now selling almost exclusively the non toxic Federal .45ACP which is SPP. I've always sorted by headstamp so now just watch for SP brass as well. So far CCI & Blazer are kind of a mix.
The SP brass is not a big deal to me & I save all I find. During the last Great Primer Drought small rifle primers were available when pistol primers weren't. Would come in handy in a pinch to be able to use them.

I will admit I've missed one or two. My press didn't "jam up" at all. When I felt the unexpected resistance during the priming operation I simply removed the offending case and went on.
