Walnut media at Harbor Freight

I stopped in at the local Harbor Freight to get a cheapo 2/10/50 Battery charger on sale for $25 (regular $50) and noticed they had fine and coarse Walnut Media for $25 for 25 lbs. Had a 20% coupon so paid $20 +tax.(bought the fine) Better than trying to get Lizard media at the pet store. This will keep me stocked up for quite a while.

Bought the coarse walnut from harbor freight and found it took several hours to clean up brass. Switched to walmart ground corncobb pet bedding, pretty coarse and it gets clean in 45 min. I add a little turtle wax car rim polish to the corncobb and run the tumbler for about 5 min. with no cases in it to distribute the polish so it doesn't end up in a glob in the cases. Holds up really well, I can cycle it at least 10 times before I change it out. No need to add more polish to it after the initial addition. I also have 2 of their small tumblers, work pretty well, had trouble with bowl spinning so I added some screws through the bottom of bowl to hold it in place, outside that they work well, they also sell a replacement bowl kit for about $12.

OCD1, I got some of that same stuff. Seemed to work fine the one time I used it, just need to add something to kill the dust.

I usually mix the walnut 50:50 with corn cob media to get the best of both.
I throw in some used dryer sheets for the dust. I have been experimenting with strips of the blue shop towels sprayed with any kind of auto spray wax. Seems to work at picking up the dust and other nasty stuff.

I tried the corn cob pet bedding. Too big a particle size for me. I gave it to the neighbors kid for their rodent pets.

I also use a mix of 50/50 walnut/corncob media for cleaning my brass. Seems to work well for me.

Don't use that coarse cob on .22 or .25 bottle neck cases... It'll pack them tight and be a pain to remove.

This is true, I use this on handgun brass, .357-.45Colt. Works very well for that.

You'll get better results with either walnut OR corn cob media if you use a polish with it. I have had EXCELLENT results with Dillons polish. A good polish for media has some mild abrasive in it.

I have also had good results with a small amount of jewelers rouge. You do have to watch that you don't over due the amount.
