Default Scot Red Diamond Powder?

Okay the guy was asking $80 for 8 pounds.

I said "How about $40?"

He said: "Okay."

Now I have an 8 pound keg of Scot Red Diamond and the only thing I can find is an Internet Quote on Castboolits where someone is supposedly quoting a manual:

Scot Powder Company, 4th Ed. loading manual

"Red Diamond A high efficiency, double base, 12 gauge square-flake powder which replaces Red Dot exactly for all shotshell and pistol loads. Contains red-colored grains for identification."

I sure would feel better if I had some confirmation. I either got the deal of the century or some mighty expensive lawn fertilizer!

I would say it is in the same general Fast class of powders as Tightgroup and WST. so you need to be very careful experimenting with it. Finding data for pistol is gonna be tough but you might find some interesting stuff in the quest. I do have an old book for Royal Scot but that won't help any.

The shape of the Red Diamond flakes caused "bridging" in the powder drops on shotgun presses. My friends that loaded that powder used small vibraters to shake the loads out. If you would go this route keep the time between loads constant, or in longer periods the vibration will add more powder to a load (upping the pressure). Otherwise I heard good things about the powder. Ivan

Much better than the answer I got from Accurate:
"If you cannot find data for the Red Diamond powder, then it is best to use it for fertilizer. We do not have any information for the 20+ year old powder. I can recommend something from our current line if you would like."

So my next quest is a loading manual from 1994-1995!

I bought 2lbs. of Royal Scot D powder a while back. I also needed data to load pistol rounds. I was told Accurate bought the remaining Scot products. Solo also had something to do with the scheme of things but I didn't make note of it. I called and talked to them and they sent me reloading data for pistol rounds using Royal Scot, Pearl Scot and several Solo powders. Maybe they have information for your Red Diamond powder. I will PM you the phone numbers and address that I have. I used the Royal Scot D in 9mm rounds and it works very well. Good luck.

Try it and use Bullseye and/or Red Dot data. That should be very safe in my opinion.
Evaluate your results then go from there.
