Default S&W 66 2.5" and 158 gr LSWC 357 mags?

Will a steady diet of these moderately loaded (4.7 grs) with Titegroup powder likely damage my more of less prestine M66?

From what I read, the k frame magnum was designed to be a 38 for practice and 158 gr. Magnum for carry. I wouldn't put many magnums through a k frame. Jmo

Probably better off asking in the reloading section. I have no idea what 4.7gr of tightgroup represents

That load will not "Damage" a Model 66 or any other 357 Magnum revovler. It falls well within SAAMI specifications for 357 Magnum

Any load, fired often enough, will cause parts to eventually wear

The highest risk in the original 66's and 19's was with 125 grain and lighter bullets. Even then it was actually pretty rare to actually have something happen. When it did cause problems, it was a crack in the forcing cone where it had been relieved on the bottom to clear the crane.

I've never heard of reports of the 158 grain bullets causing problems.

FYI, the newer 66-8 has a redesigned cylinder locking mechanism that no longer requires the relief cut in the barrel's forcing cone. Thus eliminating this problem altogether.

Factory .357 ammo with soft 158 grain SWC bullets are among the worst choices in a .357.

I think this topic belongs in the Ammo or Reloadng forums.

Being just 4.7gr of powder, I am guessing that you are using 38 brass
for your 66 revolver?
You gave little information for the load and what it was for.

Being a "K" frame it will handle the 158 gr ( lead ? ) bullet with
your fast burning powder in target load strengths.

As mentioned, the "K" frame is a weak frame 357 magnum.
It was for light 38 load practice, with heavy Magnum loads for some
practice and then carry.

The 125gr Magnum had a good stopping record but was hard on the weapons.

Range loads for my early K (3" M65-3), & L frame (4" M686 no dash) guns, as follows:

Dardas 158LSWC-BB / 3.6 TiteGroup / .357 brass / WWSP primers

Nice light load, & tight groups. Easy on the gun, too.

I have loaded 5.0 grains of TG in .357 brass - for my 686. Accurate load (see attached), but figure why put the wear on the gun, for routine range work.

You might try 3.6 - 3.8 TG for mag brass, or 3.2 TG for 38spl brass.
