Default Winchester #3 primers?

I ordered the Winchester ammuntion box book, but it isn't here as of yet...

I have procured a brick of Winchester #3 primers. When did they quit using this designation? I figure it has to be well before WW2, and even perhaps WW1 timeframe.

They don't say "staynless" on the box either- these must be fulminate of mercury, correct?\

I really need to give up on collecting this junk.

'#4' Winchesters are for repriming a shotgun 'battery cup' primer.
'New #4' Winchester primers are the complete shotgun battery cup primers.
Both very early of course. I'd say WW1 or before era.,,but that's just a guess.

Maybe #3 primers are another size shotshell primer for repriming bat/cup ?

The '#4' look like small rimfire cases with a slight neck to them. They were reprimed into the battery cup portion of the primer configuration.
You definetly can't mistake them for the usual boxer primers in SP,,SR,,ect sizes.

Don't really know,,but I end up with some of those old junk boxes of stuff too!

Default Primers

Large rifle are 8 1/2; small rifle are 6 1/2; large pistol are 7; small pistol 1 1/2; but my list doesn't have a #3 and was printed in 1967.
Sorry
