Been loading on this crummy old desk for 30 years now in a couple
of different houses. I had to put it back together with many
long sheetrock screws. I also have an X brace behind the book
shelf part. It's quite stable now and I can screw stuff right to
it any time I feel.

Reloaded in the garage until the kids left home. Walk-in closets are great for storing reloading supplies and ammo.

My wife got tired of the eye-sore so I came up with this solution.

i love all the reloading bench photos, a reporter once asked j paul getty, (at that time the richest man in the world) how much money is enough? getty fired back and said, just a little bit more. i know just how he felt, i feel the same way about loading equipment and guns!

Thank you. Its based on the old NRMA plans. I had intended on building that bench myself using the spec materials - plywood and pine/fir lumber.

I started to realize, though I'm pretty handy, this project was going to be a pain with a full time job, two toddlers and no shop to layout a project of this scale. My wife suggested I contact a few local furniture makers and see what it would cost to have built.

The NRMA plans made it to Mink Brook Studios in Vermont and Leo Breault did some design build for me resulting in what you see there. His cost to build/deliver/setup was double my materials cost. I thought that was reasonable seeing as I got solid Maple instead of plywood and I didnt risk any finger loss. I provided the butcher block top and the cabinet hardware so that cost was additional to Leo's work. Its not cheap but it is a serious workstation that causes no concern with the better half as would my creation. I can afix a dollar value to my time and it actually was a bargain.

I recommend Leo to anyone for any furniture projects. Great company. I love the bench and it is rock steady when working. If anyone is serious about getting one contact me if you need more info or think I could help.

Beige carpet?

Polished wood floors?

Man, I'm too messy for that action.

I hit the rug with a shop vac when it gets "crunchy".

That is a very nice set-up. I am considering a Lee turret press myself. How do you like it?? Thanks, Bill

My humble work area. Every weapon I have is in .45ACP except the shotty. Makes reloading easy for me.

Hi,

My bench is a bit of a mess lately, but I did some 44mag loading last week. I was having a problem with the large primer slide hanging up on my 550 at the end of travel, but Dillon sent me a new primer slide and problem solved.

Thanks,

Alan

The vise with soft jaws is used a lot more than you'd think on a reloading bench. The typing table holds my brass low to my right hand, just the way I like it.

When not in use, the typing table stores in the knee hole of the bench.

Since these pictures were taken, the Rockchucker has been replaced on the bench by a 550. The Rockchucker is now mounted to a board that is lag bolted to another work bench when needed. I also replaced the bicycle grip on the handle with an oiled wood ball. Much better ergonomically.
Looks to me that the most important piece of equipment that you have there is a "throne" in close proximity to your work area, the use of which is important in the contemplation of whether the next of load should be that of unique or 2400, much time can be spent there so I would suggest that your reloading books be placed on top of the tank next to the toilet paper...

Why the reloading presses are mounted on removable boxes:

If anyone's interested, that's a vintage blackface Princeton Reverb that needed some TLC.

I've only been reloading for about 2 months now. 9mm only so far, but we (my partner and I) have dies for 30-30 and 7x62.54r we're going to be working with this weekend for a big range trip on the 19th.

Just a basic bench made to fit this particular space in a small closet over a stairwell in the office. Really sturdy for reloading. A couple of shelves are going up this weekend to hold powder, bullets, and tools. The bench got cluttered much more quickly than I had anticipated!

Pictures are from a couple of weeks ago. The setup has changed a little bit already.

Clean brass is a pretty thing.

My first 20 rounds ever loaded. They performed pretty well with no FTL, FTF, or FTE.

Here is my reloading setup. I also have a Rockchucker, my first press, that I use for short runs of rifle cartridges.

I started with a Dillon 550 and over the years it has evolved to a 650.

I would highly recommend the LCT. I still use it for smaller runs of ammo. Here's an updated picture of my setup. I get a little carried away. lol

if i may suggest, i see a bulge in your case. in the past i have had problems with a bulge case feeding into the chamber. if you do, in order to eliminate this problem if you use a lyman M die it will go away.

Still a work in progress. Plans this summer are to rip out the work bench and build another with cabinets underneath.

retarmyaviator,
Nice! I was given a 550 and have yet gotten it cranking. That's what happens when you combine a nice stockpile of ammo with a busy life!!

Good luck with the cabinets.

Thanks. Fortunately my brother in law's brother builds cabinets as a hobby so it won't cost an arm and a leg for those.

The 550 I won in a raffle about 7 years ago, it sat in the corner never opened for about a year. I was still plugging away on that RCBS press on the right I had been using over 25 years until one afternoon I decided if I could fly CH47's I darn sure could figure out how to operate the 550.

The 650 I bought used a few months ago, sent it off to Dillon where they rebuilt it to like new condition. That case feeder has spoiled me.

For those who are not inclined to woodworking or do not have the tools,

Americanworkbench.com has some nice stuff and different models for all types of work and hobbies.

They are located in South Carolina.

Jimmy Buffet purchased one to build and work on guitars.

Well I have to admit that I am too lazy to take a picture of my reloading room, but I did enjoy looking at the posted photo's. I noticed that most of US RE-LOADER's are OCD & anal retentive neat freaks! NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!

My reloading room is a little cluttered right now. I can get my work in there done though. The single stage has a homemade linkage made of 1045 steel. Extra leverage for sizeing cast bullets and forming 40cal into 357SIG. The 4 hole turret press is great for quantity pistol loading. I pull the indexer for seating rifle loads. Most of my equipment is Lee. I have had it for years and years and it has worked for me. The linkage on the single stage broke after 10 or so years of hard use so I made a new one that will not break in my machine shop. I added the turret 4 years ago and it has worked flawless. Of all my molds only the 230 tc 45 has not been flawless. It flares and will be replaced with a 6 cavity this fall. I would suggest to buy the 6 cavity molds from Lee as the 2 cavity are not for hard use. I load 10 thousand rounds + per year with this setup. Hopefuly I will get the room organized by next year, the machine shop takes up alot of my time right now.

I have a large powder selection. I keep it in a powder magazine, but displayed it in the place I keep the powders that I am currently using. I like to buy in bulk for the most used powder. 846, Promo are my most used powder. Varget for max load 5.56x45. Powder will last for many years if stored properly. There is no reason not to buy in bulk$$$. Primers the same. I store primers and powder seperatly and fretty far from each other. I fell the primers are more dangerous.

Yall have some awesome setups. I have been motivated to take a day off from the shop and work in my reloading room. so much stuff only 16'x12' to work with. I can make it work. Once organized it will be a dream to work in. I need another room for storage I think. I will be casting in my shop this winter, so that equipment will stay out there once I get a spot for it.

Its kinda a bad picture. We had just moved into a new house and I was starting the reloading setup. Its always a "work in progress". I have a MEC 9000G for 12 gauge shotguns, a Dillon 550B for rifle, and the Dillon XL650 for the handgun stuff. I also have an old Pacifle single stage press for the benchrest rifle work.

Here's mine, with a somewhat unusual lack of clutter.
