Default 22 caliber Speer #1047 Varmint Soft Point bullets

Gentlemen,

I recently purchased a box of 22 caliber Speer #1047 Varmint Soft Point bullets. I think this link will allow you to see the bullet:

Speer Bullets - Product Details

Has anyone had experience they would care to share regarding loading this particular bullet in a .223 or 22-250?

Thank you,
Rafter

That was a very accurate bullet in my .22-250 and performs well on game, too. I used 35.0 gr IMR4320 in WW brass with Rem 9 1/2 primer. Never tried it in the .223.

IIRC, I loaded both the Speer 55gr HP and SP for my 22-250 and they were both equally effective on groundhogs. I actually thought I was a bit over gunned at the ranges I was shooting near E. Lansing, and used that as excuse to buy a M70 .223 varmint. Of course the reloading bug had bit and I had to have the newest thing, Nosler BT's.

While the Speer bullets killed them, the BT's blew them to pieces.

I still have several boxes of the Speer bullets, I do reload more BT's.

But the bottom line: "dead is dead!"
