Have anyone tried Clays Universal powder in their reloads? I have tried it in my reloads and found it to be a very nice powder. So far I have loaded 158gr 38 Spec, 147gr 9mm, 230gr 45acp all using MO bullet lead bullets. Not near as dirty as Bullseye. Meters very well through my Lee measure. What do you think?

I use it in 9, 357 and 40 loads, I find it works much like Unique as far as charge weights and volume but a lot cleaner.

One of my favorite powders. I'm using it in 9x18 Mak, 38 Special and 357 Mag.

In my opinion Universal Clays is the best powder for.44 magnum target loads. It also works well in regular .45 Colt loads. It meters well and is clean burning. Still haven't tried it in other calibers yet but it should work at least as well or better than Unique. (I'll probably get blasted by some for that statement).

It is excellent for .45 auto hardball loads.

I had not tried it in 44 mag yet. What kind of loads are you putting together?

sumo61, for the .44 I use 7.5 grs with a 240 gr cast bullet. Actually at this level swaged bullets should work well too. I have some but haven't tried them yet.
For just a bit more oomph, 8.5 grs works good with cast bullets.

Yes I like it, but the one I like is Hodgdon 'Universal' powder. Is that it? Then we have the faster 'Clays' powder. By the charge weights listed I'm sure we're talking the 'Universal' powder, don't want any confusion. It's happened before.

The front label of Hodgdon's Universal powder lists some excellent (although max) loads.

I've always been scared of the "Clays" family of powders...

Clays, International Clays, Universal Clays...all different and if you get them confused...ka-boom!

I remember a while back that one of them there was a scare on either .38 or .357 loads that might be dangerous that was previously deemed safe. (And yes, it was separate from the Blue Dot warning from about the same time.)

I am using 5.9gr with a 165gr Montana Gold bullet in 40 cal. Not as clean a VV, but way easier and cheaper to find.

works well in 40s&w 180gr. jhp as well

I use it in 9mm, 38 spec. and 40S&W. I still use WST for my 45 acp/ar loads. I love Clays Universal. It burns clean and the loads are accurate. I don't worry about getting it mixed up with the other Clays powders, cause I don't buy them. I buy univeral in 8# jugs.

Most folks can read a label. After all, I believe that is why the labels on there in the first place

Clays is an excellent replacement for Bullseye. Universal Clays is an excellent replacement for Unique. International Clays is shotgun-only powder, although I have used it for 45acp - but it kindof sucks.

i have used it as well on a number of calibers...just reloaded some 44 mag.with it last week...makes a great target load and very easy to work with

Good powder. Very similar to Unique, but a little more useful in lighter loads than Unique. I also use a lot of regular Clays. No confusion as to which is which. They are very different looking.

Another vote for Universal. I use it for reduced 357 mag target loads. As mentioned it meters well, burns clean, and very consistent.

Universal Clays has become my favorite powder to be used in reloading all of my pistol rounds. I load from medium range .38 Spec. thru 9mm, 10mm, .357 Mag, .40 S&W, 41mag and .45 acp ....... all using the appropriate weight of UC. I buy it in the 8 lb. keg. One does need to take every precaution to NOT substitute "Clays" powder for it. ...... Big Cholla
