Default Anybody use the Dillon 1050 for 223??

Just bought a Dillon Super 1050 in 5 calibers. One is 223 and I was wondering if anyone here has loaded on that press. Pistol rounds are great on the 1050(I had a 1050 in 45 auto..sold it when moving). But I haven't ever loaded a rifle round on a real progressive...except a Dillon 550B. Any insight on this would be a help. If it is more pain than it is worth..I'll just sell the 223 tooling. The dies are Carbide BTW so will keep them

I reload .223 on my Dillon 550. Same principle applies. Feed it good cases, bullets and powder, tuned for your rifle, and it will turn out accurate rounds.

Question

I think I am going to watch this thread, as I am thinking about getting a 1050 the first of next year,, 2011, to reload .223 and 9mm. I have 2-- 650's and a 550 but it is the primer pocker swaging as part of the operation that has me thinking. It seems that a lot of 9mm and 223 range brass has the crimped primer pocket.

I have the Dillon swager but it seems to me a lot easier to have it completed all in one operation.

I have had a 1050 for about 15 years, if not longer. I bought it when I worked at a gunshop and did most of their reloading. I left it setup for .223 Rem. most of the time and it worked great. I could pump out the rounds like crazy. I have setups for a few other calibers too, but it usually stays setup for the .223. It resides on my loading bench in my workshop now.

I think I even made a setup to do .308 Winchester with it.

I too have used the 1050 to reload .223 Rem. No problems at all. The primer crimp gets knocked out and things just move along. I do use H335 for powder though, works great in the Dillon measure.

Default !050 and 223

Well I set the machine up and got her going. Loading H-322 powder..mainly cause I had it.. This thing loads 'em faster'n I can shoot 'em. Or close. It didn't take long to load all the cases i had..which was still just shy of 3000..lotta bullets.

Next I'm going to set it up to load the 9mm. I have 40 lbs of cases so I may as well load 'em. I have never loaded the 9mm much as it really doesn't interest me like the 45. When I get 'em done I'm going to sell the 9mm conversion..I can probably load all the 9's I'll need in the future on my 550. Then will come the 38/357s. And I have lots of cases for them. Going to sell the 45 Colt and 45 Gap conversions. I don't shoot either..well the 45 Colt maybe a couple of boxes a year. 45 auto will be next. Love to shoot it and load it.. Surprisingly this machine makes a 650 look bad..so I sold the 650.. Entirely happy with this so far. It did cost a whole lot more than the regular 1050 I bought at an auction though.. and sold..
