Default Case cleaning dilemma!

A month or so back I saw a post where someone suggested using used dryer sheets in the tumbler to keep corn cob media clean. I tried it and it did remove a lot of dust. However, yesterday I attempted to clean some 30-30 cases and three 30.06 cases in corn cob media with strips of dryer sheets.

After two hours the cases looked like they had been rolled in case lube and black dust. The 30.06 cases were completely coated while the 30-30 cases were not as heavily coated. The crud came off by using any of several methods: steel wool, hard rubbing with a cloth or easy rubbing with paint thinner. I have no doubt that the inside of the cases are also coated.

Has anyone encountered this? Could it be that the dryer sheets were not sufficiently well used and deposited fabric conditioner on the brass? I did notice that on the box there is no mention of “Anti Static” claims. Did I use the wrong type of dryer sheets?????

Mine were not the "Bounce" brand, they were "Suavitel" by Colgate Palmolive. They were used, how well used is questionable. Does the use of dryer sheets demand the Bounce brand?????

The drier sheets would need to be very well used as there is a lot of conditioner in them. Wives that use several of these in the laundry have nice soft clothes but run the risk of fouling up the drier and the vent pipe. I have seen lint that is over conditioned nearly clog up the hose and this can lead to a serious fire.

I would suggest filtering the tumbling material through cheesecloth to get rid of the dust. This method does not put any lube back into the media.

Very well used is the key, if the sheets are a bit sticky my advice would be to not use them.
There is nothing particular about used dryer sheets, it’s just that they are the right size and strong enough to stand the tumbling.

I have found that a regular paper shop towel works. Kitchen paper towels are not strong enough and fall apart.

I found a better product as we do not use those dryer sheets. I did use a new one once and had the same problem you did.

I started using the use Handi wipes or Wet ones. I use the Wal Mart or Target generic ones to clean my hands in the car, at the range etc. The material is close to the dryer sheets it's a heavy paper like material.

I prefer the Citrus scent

+1. I also switched to used, dry Wet Ones for the tumbler. I use cut-up strips of used Wet Ones for bore patches, too. No lint or fuzz.
