Speer 220gr Jacketed Semi-wadcutter
I went to a local gun show this weekend and found my favorite .41 Magnum bullet (X500). I used to get them from LOLO Sporting Goods in Lewiston, Idaho who had a contract with Speer to purchase all their over run bullets (good bullets in a paper bag instead of a plastic box, and at a good price). The owner of LOLO's passed away a couple of years ago and his children sold the store Speer discontinued this bullet quite a while ago and I really missed it. It's a very accurate bullet out of all the .41 Magums I've owned. The velocity needs to be kept in the magnum relm to prevent jackets stuck in the barrel (Speer caviat). The fellow I got them from said Speer did a special run of them a while back, but I haven't seen any for sale anywhere??? I can't wait to try it out in the M58 I recently accquired. Hope it's as accurate out of it as my other .41's.

I too liked that bullet in all calibers [.38, .41, and .44]. As such I have stockpiled some in each.
I have always wondered how the larger amount of exposed lead would react on deer sized game versus the more "modern" 3/4 jacketed soft-points.
Still looking for a good supply of the .38/.357 half-jacket semi-wadcutters in 146 grain weight.

thought I was going nuts.. no one stocks my favorite projectiles for the 41 mag ... the speer hjhp and a silhouette round...
I love both my Blackhawk .41s both have been magnaported and had action jobs done to them.. both are 6 and a half inchers ... one will go to my son . and one to my daughter when I am on the bottom side of the topsoil..
favorite load was with 14. grains of bluedot.. but now that it is sold by Alliant.. I suppose I will have to try another powder to take its place... any suggestions?
thanks

Not sure why you will have to look for another powder? It is no longer recommended for the 41mag but it worked fine for years.

It is too bad...those were the original jacketed bullets made by Speer. I visited Alan Jones, who was the editor of the Speer reloading manuals through #13, back in 2003 and he said that those 6 bullets would be discontinued one day because the machine that was making them was the same machine that made them in the 1960s and once it could no longer be repaired the line would be gone.
Speer had that TMJ 220 grain Silhouette bullet that was discontinued when Metalic Silhouette Competition kinda fell off so no one was buying them any longer...if you look the Hornady 210 Silhouette bullet as well as the Sierra 220 also are no longer made. No customers...no bullets.
I have 1100 220s and 1000 200 left. The 220s were all loaded up to be used in a Freedom Arms 97 4.25". Once those have been shot up then the 200s will get loaded.
If you want to make your own contact Corbin. I emailed them and if I send them a bullet they will make the correct die.

that was my favorite 220 gr and the 200gr Speer 3/4 jacket swc kept a couple boxes of each just in case but as they started to become scarce I turned to casting saeco 220 gr 411 mold

I too lost a friend when the 200gr. SWCJHP was discontinued. It was the most accurate bullet that I had shot in any .41 magnum. I loaded with H110 powder. I now am playing with a 220 grain true Keith lead SWC and it shows promise of being a good substitute. I will switch to either Blue Dot or Unique powder though. H110 needs to operate at near max. load pressure to burn consistant and clean and I don't want to push lead that hard. AS for Blue Dot being banned, not quite true but close. I sent my loads to Alliant and they said I should be OK for both .357 and .41 magnum loads submitted. They were medium range loads and not anywhere near max.. I am going to have to find me another jacketed bullet though. James

woot... found a box of my old reloads.. loaded in 1986 .. every one of them fired.. now... to build my new reloading bench and get started again ... maybe I will ask the new makers of blue dot if a 200 grain projectile and 14.7 grains of blue dot will be ok.

I used both the 200gr & 220gr a very big favorite of mine but Gold Dot technology supplanted 3/4 jacketed bullets

The 200 gr. was my favorite .41 cal bullet, then it got discontinued. I liked the 180 gr. Gold Dot too, but it's discontinued too. There'se been a bunch of other .41 cal bullets that I've grown fond of, only to have them be discontinued also.
So I quit depending on the factories for my favorite bullets and now I have favorite moulds instead.
I too liked Blue Dot and used it for my requalification ammunition when I carried a .41 magnum on duty and for personal defense loads. After the announcement that it shouldn't be used for the .41 magnum, I switched to Unique in place of Blue Dot altogether.
