Default .38 Special LSWC Bullet Source

I have come up dry looking for a source of cast LSWC bullets to feed a new Model 67. I am looking for a plain base Lyman or RCBS (H&G or the like) 158 gr. cast @ 11BHN. My regular sources dont seem to have these in inventory.

Does anyone know of a custom caster that I may have overlooked?

Thanks for your input.

You can get 12 bhn .38 SWC bullets from Welcome To Penn Bullets INC.. It is listed as their Target Grade version. Great bullets and customer service.

You might try Midway USA, Missouri Bullets, or Dardas Cast Bullets.
Some of the other mailorder places like Wideners and Midsouth Shooter's Supply should also have them for sale.

Dry Creek Bullets. Owned by a member here. Original plain-base SWC's, not bevel-based.

I have used approx 5000 bullets from Missouri Bullet Co, in 9mm, 44 cal, 45 cal, and have been very happy with all the bullets so far. Reasonable price, good quality, fast shipping.

Found what I was looking for at Missouri Bullet and just placed an order. I would have preferred a flat base bullet over a bevel base bullet but they had the configuration/weight and BHN that I was looking for.

Reasonable price as well.

Thanks all.

Next time, if you want flat-base, original Keith style bullets, contact Lynn Halstead at Dry Creek Bullets. Not only are they good bullets, he's donated a lot of his time and money to raise money to keep this forum going.

Not wanting to hi jack this thread....

someone correct me if I am wrong...

original design flat base bullets have a greater potential for accuracy but just harder to reload because they lack the taper cut?????

how do you contact dry creek bullets? cannot find a website or phone number.

I is interested in

158 gr .358" SWC flat base
148 gr .358" WC flat base

9mil .356" SWC flat base (115/124/125/147)

thanks in advance

Right you are; potentially more accurate but a bit harder to load. The main problem is that they are harder to cast and get a perfect base.
The H&G 68 (200gr 45 swc) molds came in fb or bb. Most commercial casters produce the bb version, but the fb molds will usually sell for a bit more to those who cast their own.
In bullets for 38/357 I think most accuracy seekers are shooting 148 HBWC anyway so it’s not a big problem.
At my level of skill it doesn’t make a lot of difference.

Another vote for Missouri Bullet Co. Very resonable price's and one of the few 357 mag bullet's that dont lead at magnum velocity's.

Bayou Bullets in Gramercy, LA. He uses a coating that virtually eliminates fouling. Push'em as slow or as fast as you want.

Just for the record....

I have bought from Dry Creek years ago and Lynn was one of the first contacts I made. He did not have the BHN I was looking for in inventory at this time. As I want to get shooting I needed to look elsewhere.

I have always found Dry Creek products to be of Top Quality and I will certainly check back with them at a later date.

The info here has helped me find a cure for an itchy trigger finger.

Happy Shooting all....

Only to glad to do so!

If the equipment is setup correctly they are just as easy to load as bevel based bullets. Also, accuracy potential is a moot point with base type. Although, some have declared that BB bullets are MORE accurate than plain base.

What about rifle bullets? Which are more accurate? BT or Spitzer type?

I have heard that BT are and that is why the high power rifle folks use them.

In handgun bullets plain base may be easier to obturate and thereby seal off gases that could cause leading. But that answers a question you didn't ask!

I don't know that boattail rifle bullets are characteristically more accurate; they have better ballistic coefficients, shoot flatter and drift less, making long range hits a little bit easier.

Hollow base bullets are the best for sealing the chambers and bore of a revolver. Bevel base, by design, are the opposite of a hollow base.

I've used Mastercast Bullet Company several times now and love their products and service. You'll be shocked at how fast they normally fill their orders. Mike Symbala will take care of you. I'll be contacting him again soon for another order. Home Page

I hope this isn't a hijack but HPBT's get the nod anywhere from 500 yds out. The benchrest boys do like their flat base bullets but us F-Class guys still shooting .308s usually run anywhere from 175 gr to 190 gr HPBT's depending on your rifles twist. While it might be a personal opinion for most the BT's seem to buck the winds better over distance. Surprisingly those 190's sometimes won't even go to sleep (stabilize) at 100 yds.
