Default Reloading for the 610 10mm revolver

Anybody here have a 610 revolver they reload for? I was wondering if you have a load that performed excellent or horrible, to help me find a sweet spot load for mine (6 1/2" barrel).
Thanks in advance!

I have a 3" 610. Haven't worked with it a whole lot, but the max loads of Power Pistol under a 180 grain JHP shoot well, though quite flashy.

Data available from Alliant. I think I will soon prefer Longshot under the same bullet. The max loads listed by Hodgdons seem to work about as well, without all that nasty flash.

Lightbulb No longer!

I had a M610 with a 6 1/2" barrel but have since sold it.

In my opinion, the gun is too big for the caliber. Now if they had made it an 8 shot, now that might be something!

The rounds are almost unmanageable in full moon clips with the longer rounds and what is the use of putting 40S&W rounds in a firearm that weighs nearly 4lbs?

Our state hunting regulations don't allow us to hunt with it so, I got rid of it.

180gr & 200gr LTC were all I shot out of it. I purchase some 38-40 LRNFP bullets for it in 180gr to see if I could build some "revolver looking" rounds for it but to no avail.

I can tell you what I used and did like about the 10MM. I liked the 200gr LTC and a full charge of AA#7 was the ticket for accuracy and thumping power.

To each his own but I would much rather had a M646 that is 40S&W. I think I still have about 2 dozen full moon clips for my M610 too!

Default 800-X in 10mm

If you're looking for top end-ish loads you might try 800-x.

I have a 4" 610-3 and have been playing around with 800-x under 180 gr XTP and 175 gr ltc. It's not as flashy as PowerPistol and seems to shoot a little softer (to me anyway).

I can't find AA7 locally, but I have tried AA9. AA9 still had a bit more thump to it compared to 800-x, but I was not able to get complete ignition. I tried running the AA9 up to it's max load, which gave me incomplete ignition and sticky extraction so I pretty much gave up on it.

The only drawback to 800-x is: the flakes are relatively large and it doesn't meter well. I use a Lyman DPS 2 to throw all my powder charges so the metering isn't really a problem for me.

I like paper shooting so I load accordingly.

5.0gr Unique under a Bear Creek Moly-Coated 155gr LSWC in a WW case and WW primer. Taper crimp to no bullet movement. 6.5" 610 puts them all in the black.

Lyman 49th lists 150gr LRN with 5.0 starting load, 6.3 maximum load.

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK ANY LOAD INFORMATION THAT YOU GET ONLINE!!!

If you are looking for max velocity in the 10mm: AA#7, 800X, and Blue Dot will give excellent results. I also like a starting load of VN-340 for 180gr. cast leads in my 610 for punching paper.

As another poster mentioned, I think the N-frame platform is overkill for 10mm. Keep in mind that Smith produced the 646 on the L-frame. Factory pressures on the 40 S&W are just 2500 psi less than the 10mm. I've seen some load data for the 610 that you probably would be ill advised to use in an auto-loading pistol. The 610 is one helluva defensive revolver. Reloads quickly with the clips and delivers plenty of energy downrange. Shoot at a car body with a 40 small and weak. Then shoot same target with full-power 10mm. You'll know what I'm talking about!
