Default Soliciting ideas on Uniflow issues

I finally got my new Uniflow measure set up and ran some powder through it as recommended in the instructions. A few issues arose as I did so, as follows:

1)Even though I thoroughly rubbed the inside of the reservoir with a dryer sheet beforehand, the powder stuck to the wall of the reservoir. Any ideas before I do this the second time?

2)I bought the optional micrometer screw to make resetting the differing charges easier, but it's a little too heavy when opened to the correct charge volume to stay at the top of its stroke after the charge is dropped(the lever on the opposite side won't stay down). [It will stay up(barely) as long as there is no significant vibration in the measure, but since I have the measure mounted on the same platform as the press(the best arrangement), vibration will be inevitable as the press is used.] The lever may be mounted so that it extends further than the usual setting, and so I tried that, but it wasn't enough to do the trick. I'm a little put out that the RCBS engineers apparently didn't think of this and provide a heavy enough lever to counteract the weight of the micrometer assembly. I have some options, the best of which is probably to fasten a lug nut to the lever with electrical tape; but if you folks have better ideas I'll certainly listen.

3)There seems to be some leakage out the sides of the cylinder(wouldn't occur with coarser powder -I'm currently using H110, which as you know is very fine). Maybe this is just the best that can be expected, but one of the reasons I bought a new measure was that my old one(a Lee) leaked too much. Any comment?

Other than these things I'm pleased with the way the Uniflow works. It meters very accurately.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Andy

As to the powder sticking.

Right under the TO USE:

http://www.rcbs.com/downloads/instru...structions.pdf

Set to maximum and run 1lb of powder through it.

I bought a Uniflow many years ago. To get uniform charges, I ended up machining a sleeve to take up the excessive clearance between the chamber and the adjustment plug. When I finally managed to get uniform charges at one specific weight of IMR 4198, I dedicated the measure to that particular bullet weight/caliber and bought a Lyman 55 for other purposes.

Altogether unimpressed with the Uniflow. Also rather peeved at the current lack of bushing type measures for pistol reloading. They're handy, fast, consistant and realatively inexpensive.

Default paper

The plastic tube on my Uniflow became sticky from years of contact with powder, mostly Bullseye. RCBS sent me a new one for free. Still the plastic can soften from contact with the powder. I took a piece of copy paper and rolled it into a tube and cut it to fit inside. Now the powder does not contact the plastic at all. I can't see the powder level but checking it from the top is just as easy. As far as leakage I simply put tape around the tube at the bottom either Scotch or masking to prevent movement while tapping out the loads. Simple solutions that work.

Could you use clear contact paper in place of copy paper. Not sure how if it would effect flow, or if the powder would have same effect, but would allow you to see level. Just an idea.

Wash the plastic tube in dish washing detergent and let dry with out rinsing, that is leave the soapy water on the plastic. Static cling is gone.

Thank you for the replies. Before Dan posted I called RCBS for advice, and the rep recommended the soapy water trick also. I tried that, and some(not a lot) powder still stuck to the wall of the reservoir. Then I filled the reservoir and ran a second batch through the measure. This time there was very little powder that stuck.

The leakage is apparently normal. The problem re the weight of the micrometer isn't yet resolved completely; I may open a new thread on that one.

Thank you again,
Andy
