.357 mag RP brass with a LARGE primer pocket.
Just got fifty, new pieces in with a mess of older components from the 60's into the 70's. Any idea as to when RP last did .357 brass with a LG PP??

They didn't use them 44 years ago as all the R-P .357 brass and ammo I bought back then had small primer pockets.

Gleaned from other sources..
Starline said, "Many years ago, the 38 and 357 mag cases had large primers but someone realized that a small would work just fine. You will probably never encounter these cases but if you do make sure you reduce your load especially if it is a hot one."
Someone else thinks that they may be worth several bucks each to some people.
I don't know the validity of any of this.

I'm thinking that they had to go back at least to the 60's.
I have an idea, though. There have been many iterations of the .38 cartridge. The large primer cases could have been for one of the hotter loads for one of those.

I believe the large primer .357 cases are pre-WWII, but can't cite a reference right now.

Even though you said the head stamp was R-P that isn't possible with a large primer pocket. Was it really Rem-UMC, or Peters? All large primer pocket cases are pre-WWII. The last year Suydam shows was ca. 1939.
You are going to have to show a photo with the primer pocket empty to convince anyone this exists!

The geco brass is from Germany, Dynamit Nobel. Obviously large primers. Wonder when they were made?

Interesting. Although all the Geco ammunition I have seen has had Boxer primers, but I wonder if these could be Berdan and metric sized like 5mm or 5.5mm?
Definitely not Small Pistol, not posted by OP, and definitely not R-P as OP claimed!

I deprimed those Gecos to check the type of primer and found they were actually small primers with mushroomed tops.

So we're still waiting to see some pix of large primer pocket .357 cases other than the original WRA pre-WWIIs (hopefully US manufacture)?
