ive narrowed it down to 748 or varget for 223 55 and 60 gr. bullets which runs through the powder measurer the best and witch will have the best groups in i in 9 twist

Varget has worked well for me in a 223.

I've never loaded Varget but 748 is my powder of choice for 223 and 223 AI. 27.8 gr for 223 and 28.9 gr for the AI, both are .5 moa loads using 50gr Nosler Ballistic Tips or 50 gr Vmax. Wsr primers WW cases. Both shoot to same poi.

748 (a ball powder) will run through a powder measure more consistently and smoothly than Varget (a stick powder) One of the best reloading purchases I have made is the RCBS automated powder dispenser. It allows surprisingly quick and precise powder charges to be "thrown" despite their grain configurations. It allows me to use THE best powder for my accuracy and/or velocity goals.
I have had great results with both 748 and Varget in .223 in bolt and gas guns. Your rifle will tell you which it prefers.

748 will go through the powder measure more consistently than Varget, but I find Varget is outstandingly more accurate in any of my small to medium case rifle loads. It is very insensitive to temperature changes, and I noticed no variation in POI out to 500 yards between 99 degree temp and 45 degree temp.

Another vote for varget. It's all I use for .223 with 55 grain bullets.

Varget is almost impossible to meter in an auto/progressive setup unless you manually throw the charges, but it gives me far better accuracy with 55-63 gr bullets in my 1:9 twist rifle.

Another 748 and 50 grain bt and v-max user, although with Rem 7 1/2 primers. Also use it for 55 fmjbt practice loads. Throws very consistently from powder measure, although have not compared it to varget in hot/cold temps.

I use Varget for my .223 match loads with 69 grn. HPBT Sierra bullets.
Never had a problem with it metering through my Dillon 1050 setup.

748 is a good powder, but it is temperature sensitive and the hotter it gets, the more the pressure rises.

The number of .223 rounds made using W748 probably can't be counted. H335 is an extremely popular .223/5.56 powder too. (both are ball powders) I was using H335 until I gave Varget a try with a 55gr Sierra GameKing bullet. That powder/bullet combination produces sub 1/2 MOA groups so I'm going to stick with it for a while.

Bingo!!! we have a winner. Varget is Aussie made AR2208, which I have been using for a number of calibres for 24yrs or more. Its greatest feature, as mentioned above is it not being sensitive to temeprature variations in pressure compared to many other powders.

My favourite .223 load is a 60gn over 24.5gnAR2208. Worked well in semi autos, bolt guns and 1:9 twist.
