Range brass and Fail to feed?
I was shooting my 4006TSW the other day, and out of 200 rounds, I had one fail to feed, where a loaded round was jammed sideways in the feed ramp area. These were range brass reloads which were G-rx processed. They were range brass, mixed headstamp, 180 gr lead truncated cone, bevel base bullets with Power Pistol 5.8 gr seated to 1.125" They were shooting about 920 fps on a 50 degree day. The FTF happened once.
Then, I shot another box of some older reloads, once fired Federal NT brass which I loaded to 6.0 gr Power Pistol, loaded out to 1.135. These functioned fine.
Now, do people think this might be an ammo problem, or more likely just being not used to the recoil (I haven't shot 40 in a while) and having a limp wristing problem. Otherwise the gun has worked ok.
Any suggestions?

If there was a problem with the way the ammo was made, I'd think there would have been more than one failure, if it was that bad.
I won't throw out the limp wristing as I've seen failures to feed with different guns when the shooter would hold them in weird, think gangsta, positions. But since it only happened once in 250 rounds it will be very hard to say what went wrong.

Do you still have the round that did not feed?
If so, try it in a cartridge gauge and see if it is sized to SAAMI standards. It could be bent or otherwise distorted.
Even with push-through sizing, I find some .40 cases just need to be tossed rather than reloaded. It is one of the hazards of using range trash (which I do) that some of the brass is no good.

Yeah, I was hoping that the G-Rx die would correct any and all problems with range pickup, but I guess you never know. I wasn't even thinking to save the round or examine it, I just put it back in the mag and fired it off no problem. Who knows.
I have a big bucket of the once fired Federal NT (nicely deprimed and pocket swaged from TJ Conevera) and an ever growing bucket of range brass. So I will load both and see if the problem only happens with range brass of unknown prior usage and problem.
On a related note, do people need to use a G-Rx each time you reload the brass, or only for the first time (assuming you use it again in the same pistol and that pistol is NOT a Glock) I've heard that the 4006TSW is well supported in the case head...

If I'm sure that the .40 S&W cartridge went through one of my S&Ws or Brownings, I don't run it through the push-through sizer, and haven't had any problems.
However, if I pick it up at a match and it might have gone through a jugged STI chamber or a Glock, I don't trust it. I also check for a square (not dished) head and clear headstamp markings, and toss those that look bad.

To me it sounds like a fluke round. It happens. ALL I use in my 4566 is reloaded range brass (except for HD duty) and it's fed flawlessly, much more than I can say for my Glock 30, which likes to stop short of battery lockup with the same ammo.

So far I haven't had any problems feeding 45acp at all, all range brass or my own once fired. I have had feeding problems in 9mm in my M&P9c, but I have a 5906TSW which has gobbled up all my reloads without a problem. So, so far, only the 40S&W seems to be a problem. I won't give up, especially since the more powerful round is a challenge to master, and the range brass is almost as plentiful as 9mm.

I haven't found the need for a G-Rx die with range brass, and I'm sure some of my pick-ups must have been fired in a Glock. I have not had had any FTF's in my Sig after reloading with a Dillon die set.

What's a G-Rx die? I've been living in a cave and have never heard of it.

Push-through sizing die for .40 S&W.
You can do the same thing by taking the guts out of a factory crimp die, provided you have or make the push rod to fit the press.

Is there any kind of brass besides the stuff you pick up at ranges? You mean people buy brass?
I've bought 1 box 30-06, 1 box 148 HBWC 38 spl Remington, 1 box Federal 308 168 BTHP Match, and 1 box Federal 222 Rem. I've reloaded 150,000+ rounds with range brass without any significant problems. I'm not a perfectionist, but cautious.
