Default Lyman Ideal No55...... How'd I do?

Went by the gunshop to pick up a gun and he had this in a pile of reloading stuff on the floor. I gave him 30$, it was on consignment from another costumer.

Anyone got any tips or known quirks? They look like a really good powder measure, you just can't get good old quality like this anymore.

I had a Lyman 55 for years. It's OK but it takes a Philadelphia Lawyer to get it to throw the same charge twice in a row. Traded mine for an old Belding & Mull several years ago. That worked for me. But went to a RCBS 2 years ago. Much improved. Good luck with your Lyman.

Got mine in '63 (I think). Still use it.

I used one for years reloading benchrest ammo. They dont like long extruded powder like 3031, but I never had issues with H322 or H4895. The old ones dont have a baffle like the new ones do. I think if you call or write Lyman they may send you one for free, if not it would probably be cheap and it will work better.
I worked up a rhythm with mine. With the handle up (fill position) I flipped the knocker twice, then twice in the down position, and with H4895 never had charge off by more than .01grs

I got one early on in reloading days. I wasn't very impressed with it, and bought a Redding 3BR to replace it with. I REALLY like the Redding.

I wound up selling the Lyman on eBay. But to be fair, I was using mostly long grain powder (lots of shearing), and I never adjusted it properly. I used the top "fine" adjustment for all the adjustment, so it was self induced.
