I would like to buy one of these powder dispensers. So witch one would you buy
And if you own one how do you like it. Right now I'm using the

I'm sure someone that's more up to date can be of greater help as I still use the Ohaus Duo-Measure and the Lyman 5-0-5 scale. I don't trust anything electronic or that needs "warming up" when it comes to measuring powder.

If I had to buy one today, I'd probably go with the RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure.

I use the Redding BR-3. It's manual, but seems to throw very accurate loads, if set up properly. I resisted a powder measure for years, and weighed each load on an OHOUS 1010 scale. I still do, if I'm only loading a few rounds.(50 or less).

I just use my Lee Auto Disc Pro on the press. If I load just a few rifle cases I stick with the Lee Perfect Powder measure. I don't care what others say. It doesn't leak, it's spot on accurate and works every-time. I liked it so much when loading single stage I bought two and keep them set at different charges. Those electronic self dispensing models may be good but they are slow and sooner or later anything electronic is gonna screw up(JMHO)

I'd rather spend that kind of money on something else.

I have the Lyman. The only drawbacks are that it requires a 30 minute warm-up and the chute to empty the powder dispenser is poorly positioned and not all that easy to use. I usually use the warm-up time to gather primers, powder and bullets and to check my dies and press and adjust and lube as necessary. The Lyman 1200 DPS III is accurate and fast. I would buy one again. I got rid of my mechanical powder throwers and scales.

At the present, electronic powder dispensers are not on my 'gotta have it list' due to some unsatisfactory experience with my soon-to-be discarded Lyman DPS II, (not III).
First, due to the tolerances between the powder rotor tube and its plastic powder reservoir, small-kernel powders such as
Bullseye, 231, and H-110 tend to accumulate there and cause the motor to labor and the rotor tube to become stuck. I think large kernel extruded powders such as the IMR series (except for IMR 4227)may perform better. I have not tried IMR 4350 in my DPS II because my Belding & Mull mechanical measure handles IMR stick powders to my complete satisfaction.
Second, the electronic scale function of my DPS II is a total disappointment. The unit gives a loud squeal after about two cases are charged indicating a loss of 'zero'. This destroyed any confidence in the accuracy of charges thrown.
I have returned to using my three old reliable measures:
My RCBS Little Dandy is used for many handgun loads. My
Hollywood Micrometer is used for big bore handgun and some rifle loads and then there is my B&M for large stick powders. If I did not have my long-out-of-production Hollywood measure I would (like EarlFH stated) get a Redding measure.

If you want the finest manual measure (expensive), nothing can compare to the Harrell measures.

Depends on what powder you're throwing. If it's long sticks for a rifle, like 4350 or some such, don't buy anything; the Lee Pefect is the best there is. For smaller-grained powder in reasonable quantities, you might consider springing for a Harrell's or some other really nice bench-rester's tool advertised by Sinclair's. The Belding and Mull is also great, but MUST be bench-mounted, because the operating lever is pulled against considerable spring pressure.

For Bullseye, one of the fixed-cavity styles with interchangeable rotors is probably best.

The RCBS is great if you are working on the edge. I have one and use it for specific jobs. Day in and day out the Redding is easy to use and close enough for regular rifle or pistol loads. I have used Lee and if money is a desciding factor they are good.

The RCBS electronic is great when loading loads with tight specs I use 1 load where beginning is 20g. of h110 and max is 21 and I had to call the bullet mfg. to get it, they won't put it in a manual.
FYI I have used Lyman, Dillon,Lee,Redding, Lee, and RCBS over the last 40 years of loading and they all can do the job.

RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure. That would be my choice.

I still use my old Herters powder dropper, and it works fine. The battery has never gone dead because it doesn't use one, and it never needs to be warmed up.

The consistancy of drops depends largely on the shape of the powder. I use HP-38 for my pistols and once set, the load never changes. Spherical rifle powders, on the other hand, don't settle as finely as ball or flake. I typically set the dropper a grain or two light, then top off the load with a trickler. Rifle accuracy and powder consistancy requirement is much more fickle than pistol.

I was just coming here to post a thread on the RCBS. I jst read the review in the above link, and need to ask "Is it worth it, or is there a better scale at a lesser price that will serve my needs?"

My issue is, it seems my RCBS Uniflow seems to feel like it wants to "stick" (a spot of resistance) when dispersing powder. I've taken it apart and checked and all is smooth. I've used my 5-0-2 scale to check, but it seems like it can't tell the difference between 4.0 and 4.4 grains of powder sometimes.
Any ideas or comments?

Can't get enough powder throws. Some do better than others for the different style/type of powers being thrown.

For the electronic scales my rcbs charge master is the cat’s meow. It really shines when I'm doing test loads. No more resetting the powder throw then testing the charge to see if it's correct. Or using the hand scale to make the test loads. I used to hate to test pistol loads, I'd make 12 shots of each load. I'd jump the powder charge in .2gr increments. It would take forever to test a powder/bullet combo. With the rcbs charge master its dump in the powder, type in what charge I need & hit the button.

I also use the rcbs little dandy powder throws for pistol loads. It does excellent most of the time. But it struggles with the flat flake powders & small charges.

I really like my hornady lnl powder measure, it handle the different powders extremely well. I bought the micro meter metering inserts for pistol & rifle charges. They’re very accurate & easy to use.

I have the RCBS chargemaster 1500, I like it a lot.

It is too slow for mass production, but it is great for doing load development. It is great for loading small batches of varying charges. For example, when experimenting with hardball loads for .45 auto, it was easy to make 20 at 4.0, 4.2, 4.4, 4.8, 5.0 gr Bullseye, head to the range and try them out.

I've used Bullseye, W231, 2400, Unique, Universal, VV N310, and Green Dot, it throws charges that are dead on with all of them. I don't think the shape of the powder kernels has any affect on the precision.

I also use it for making .357 magnum, where I don't need a bunch, and I would rather know that the charge is dead on what I want.

I haven't tried loading rifle yet, but it would be perfect for that. It starts out quickly, and as it gets close to the target weight it slows down and trickles the powder.

I found it to be very accurate - it only infrequently overthrows. When it does, just dump the powder back in the hopper and throw another.

When not using it to throw powder, the scale works well. I use it to verify that my LNL powder measure is throwing what I want, then start mass producing.

Count me as another vote for the Redding BR-3. Make sure that it has a powder baffle in the storage tube. That makes for a more even pressure on the powder being dumped and therefore you get very accurate throws. .......... Big Cholla

I am new to reloading.. and I went with a known brand.
RCBS uniflow......... works well.
I load a 5.0 charge in my .45 200 gr. (worked up to it)
I measure every 10, to every 50.
it throws between 4.8-5.1 grains
thats good enough for me...

if your into competition and all that...
your in the right place...

If your loading close to max at 4.8 and you get 5.1, isn't that a bit high and possibly dangerous?

I grew up with those Orange hand operated powder measures and will just stick with them. Two flips of the swing "knocker" and I find they throw very accurate charges. No warm up.. no wondering... and tough as an M60A1.

So far, I've used my Lyman 1200 DPS III with Varget, Reloder 15 and Power Pistol. It works well with these powders. I think the complaints about the Lyman were with the previous model.

I use a pair of the original Lyman 1200DPS, bought some years ago, one for unique and one for 2400. I flip the on switch and set up other stuff while it warms up. I can load 100 rnds in ~ an hour 5 minutes. I just can't work any faster than that and pay attention. I'd throw them out and get a pair of the RCBS or the Lyman III, but the ones I have still work flawlessly, so what would I be trying to fix? Faster measures fix nothing for me, so I'm hopelessly linked to the dim past- imagine my concern .

I have a uniflow and it is horribly inconsistant. I have heard good things about the perfect powder measure, so for 25 bucks, I'll give one a try. It can't be any worse than my uniflow.

I mostly load on a Dillon RL 550 with its measure, which is quite consistent. When I'm loading on my single-stage press, I use an old Redding measure I've had for 30 years+. If I am consistent in operating it, it is unbelieveably consistent.

If you want the best buy a Harrell's Precision.

I started out with a Lee Perfect, which came with my Lee Anniversary kit single stage. I quickly moved up, I found it to be terrible. It was very inconsistent and leaked.

I don't have a uniflow, but I do have the Hornady LNL AP, it comes with a measure that is a very similar design. I've had very good luck with it, it is very consistent with small kernel powders like bullseye. Large flakes (Unique and Green Dot) are less consistent. I haven't used it with stick rifle powders.

Well, I just talked the wife into a RCBS Chargemaster Pro yesterday. Ordered it from Cabela's -on sale for $289! - with free shipping. I forgot the $50 rebate is for a $300 purchase, or I'd have added something else on the order. I can go to the local store and get a powder funnel or something though. I really just needed a better scale, but after the rebate I could not pass up the big dog unit for $239.

She said this needs to be my last big purchase for a while though. Last month we get the kid (16) a Ruger 10/22, a TAPCO stock, front bipod/foregrip combo unit, and a hard case. I already had a good scope for it. Seems the "fun fund" is about tapped out for a while, but I have plenty of reloading supplies to last me a while.
