I'm looking for some loads for 32/20 bullets in .32 H&R. I loaded some today with 4gr universal, but would like some data with 2400, PP, unique etc. no one seems to post loads with this heavy of a bullet. Anyone know where to look? S&W 16-4 so I think its OK to push the envelope a little. I have new starline brass.

All I can give you for the 115 cast bullet in a heavy load is one maximum load with both Lyman 3118 (311008) and 311316. Pressure is estimated to be very close to 32-35,000 PSI based on pressure signs compared to full pressure published loads for .357 Magnum. As the velocity is well in the same range, with a bullet of similar sectional density, bears this out.

Only use in Ruger or S&W K-Frame or equivalent
revolvers!

Universal Clays, 5.4 gr: 3118, 1307 FPS; 311316, 1276 FPS
Use only Starline brass for this load!

U-Clays and Unique are nearly interchangeable weight-for-weight.

Here is some jacketed data which will give you a point to start from with either of the above bullets by reducing the traditional 10% for the heavier bullet.

Speer 100 Gr JHP:
7.6 Blue Dot, 1268 FPS
11.9 H-110, 1181 FPS

Hornady 100 XTP:
12.5 H-110, 1368 FPS (Trial 1)
12.5 H-110, 1278 FPS (Trial 2)
Both were shot in similar conditions. This is absolutely maximum! I would reduce by no more than 5%, with this weight bullet,and stay there.

Some loads that can be used in S&W pre-magnum frame Model 631:

4.5 gr Unique, 3118, 1161 FPS
4.1 U. Clays, 3118, 1115 FPS
10.0 L'il Gun, 3118, 1064 FPS
5.5 4756, 311316, 1140 FPS
7.8 2400, 311316, 1000 FPS (Probably could increase to 9.0 gr for heavy frame guns)

Contrary to what others have reported, slower powders like 2400, H-110, L'il Gun, etc, do not seem to produce velocities as high as moderate rate powders.

Primer for all loads was Winchester WSP.

95 LSWC, 905 FPS

Thank you sir, I think I may try 8gr 2400, and work up to approx 9 in easy steps. I have an affinity for 2400 in warm, heavy for caliber loads. The new formulation seems a little cleaner burning to me.

I like Green Dot with a 115 g Laser Cast bullet. 3.6g groups 1 1/16" at 25 yards out of a 4" Ruger 100. Please verify all loads with the proper manuals before using. - gene

ALK8944 what do you think was the cause of the 90 FPS difference between your Hornady 100 GR XTP loads ?

Probably different lot of powder and different temperature. The two different trials were fired 10 1/2 years apart! The first trial was fired at an unspecified air temperature, but it was May, so it is likely the temperature was significantly higher than the 40 degrees I recorded for the second trial that was fired in November. H-110 is quite temperature sensitive.
