Back again with another question: I'm looking to order some bullets from the Missouri Bullet Co. (for target shooting with a J Frame). I have looked at 2 possibilities but can't figure out if there is a significant difference between them. One is a 148 Gr. DEWC-BB for PPC velocity, the other a 158 gr. SWC for Target velocity. Other than 10 gr., what is the difference between the two (what does the DE**-BB mean?) and why would you select one over the other?

Normally, this type bullet can be loaded with either end in the case. You can load them flush with the case mouth for certain applications, but they usually come with a crimp groove about 1/8" from either end that allows the end of the bullet to rest in the chamber throat, which helps center it with the bore if your throats are correctly reamed, and each end will have a slight bevel to make starting them down into the case easier when loading. They are different from the 148 HB (hollow base) wadcutters which only seat in one direction, and are intended for low velocity target/match loads. DE wadcutters can be loaded to higher pressures without fear of blowing the skirting off like can happen when HB wadcutters are pushed too hard.

Wadcutters cut a very clean edged hole in paper for scoring purposes when shooting in a match. Semi wadcutters have a long nose, and are very useful for target shooting, some informal match shooting, plinking, and especially hunting.

Both will make a good plinking round but IMO the 158gr SWC will make a better all around round because it can be used for light hunting applications too. I use to load both but now load only the 158gr SWC bullets to make things simpler. I will tell you bot are accurate with the right load but the 148gr DEWC bullets are capable of spectacular accuracy.

I have boxes of both those bullets from Missouri. I generally load the WC over 2.8 grains of Bullseye and the SWC over 3.1 grains. Both are more accurate then I can shoot, and like ArchAngel suggests, if I bought just the SWC, I'd get along just fine.
