I have been shooting a batch with cowboy loads for 10 years and still going. Some have split and have been tossed, but a lot are still good. Using a minimum load of Clays and 200 grain bullet. Probably reloaded only once or twice a year, though. Its a big batch.

With mid range loads they will last a very long time. If you reload them a lot after a while you will start loosing one now and again to a split at the mouth. Normally this will take years to happen.

The best way to get a handle on this would be to get your dies set up about as close to perfectly as you can. Use only 50 rounds of brass. Shoot up the 50 rounds and reload them every week. I am guessing that you will start loosing a few cases the first year doing this. That would be 50 some odd loadings. Keep a record of when every one of them dies, and what the case failure was. Then you can let the rest of us know forsure how long they last in a year or two.

Most of us probably have hundreds of cases, and do not load the same case very many times per year. Doing this you will be using the same cases for a long time.

I have 38 Special cases I have had since 1975 that I am still reloading. I pitch one in the brass bucket now and again. Same cause a split mouth, or once in a while a split down the side.

With midrange loads, brass life is a non issue for most of us.

It's all in the crimp, it seems. If you are loading for a hard-recoiling lightweight, you need a very firm crimp into a bullet groove to prevent bullet pull. That sort of crimping will kill Nickel-Plated brass in about 5 loadings and plain brass in less than 10.
